How come no-one is talking about this? This is a huge escalation, it's hard to see how this doesn't end with a war.

Taken a British tanker, they'll see it as tit for tat Couldn't give a rat's arse what they think. One is a fully legal seizure of a ship that was breaking sanctions and the other is an act of piracy.

I'm assuming they couldn't give a rat's arse what you think either. Neither attitude will de-escalate tensions.

They're doing this to force Trump to lift sanctions. Placed on Iran because they are in clear breach of nuclear agreements. Trump has reacted to this situation not caused it. If anyone has Jackboots and bloodlust it's Iran. An appalling regime.

We certainly have to hope that Bolton and the Hawks don't prevail. It's all a bit set piece though isn't it so far. Feels like we're having our balls tickled for an old fashioned carpet bombing.

Trump is far beyond blame here, as we are where we are because of him throwing the Iran deal out of the window apparently to spite Obama. Iran was always going to escalate things as it lost its ability to sell oil. Arguably, this might have been the plan all along; give Trump some bad advice and play to his ego and just wait for the Iranians to inevitably kick off.

We are acting on US orders here and with Trump at the helm that doesn't bode well.
It's all kicking off because of Trump's childlike scrapping of the nuclear deal, just to get back at Obama and with our increasing dependence on US (likely to escalate post Brexit) we are heading dutifully (head first) into international conflicts. So just as personal vendetta politics has been directing our politics these last 3 years at home, the same is happening here, only the stakes are even higher.
It's ironic that we are citing EU sanctions for the seizure of the Iranian vessel. Since when did EU sanctions apply to Iran? Everybody knows that this seizure was on US orders. The seizure of the Iranian vessel was always going to be responded to, that must be premeditated, so into conflict we trot.
We are working our way into a very tight corner.

It was grossly negligent to say she was training journalists when that was clearly a) not true b) was obviously going to open her up to further interrogation by her captors. He was supposed to be helping her not giving evidence against her!....Stupid is not the word! And now, to try to brush it off as inconsequential is just criminal. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7157349/Nazanin-Zaghari-Ratcliffes-husband-hits-Boris-Johnson.html

I feel very sorry for the family. Let's hope his mistake isn't just used as a political football. ........ Hamid Baeidinejad, Iranian ambassador to the UK, told Channel 4 News the comments by Mr Johnson, the front runner in the Tory leadership race, made "no change" to her case and that he is not to blame for her imprisonment. www.standard.co.uk/news/world/boris-not-to-blame-for-nazanins-imprisonment-iranian-ambassador-says-a4172431.html

I don't think anyone is saying he is to blame, but just imagine how you would feel if you were her husband and a foreign secretary came out with that line in a public statement. You would be entitled to hate him for the rest of your life, and he must be bewildered to think that a man capable of this in public office is now going to lead a country!

Yes , it's awful that she seems to be used as a political football. Horrible for her husband, parents and children. "Iran" ought to be compassionate and let her go.....I wonder how many more are cruelly, vindictively or politically imprisoned by them. There can't be much worse than the torture of her situation.
