So was Joshua Wedgwood,Royal Doulton ,Beswicks, , John Tams etc etc Not quite sure what you are saying here. Do you ( as your first post seemed to imply ) disagree that there needs to be stronger regulation in football to prevent these situations arising ? Not my club so not in the slightly bothered , if I’m been honest

I think it is quite clear what he is saying, what makes a football club so special over say the companies that he listed above? I'm not sure he was implying that football clubs shouldn't be regulated, just making an observation that the closure of ANY business has a devastating knock on effect.

Not my club so not in the slightly bothered , if I’m been honest Personally I think that’s a somewhat selfish and shortsighted view. Better just hope it never happens to us. The last club to be this close to extinction was Pompey who had enjoyed time in the top division and a cup final. Some of their fans had thought it could never happen here.

So he passed the fit and proper tests despite not being able to prove he had the finances to run the club?
Surely that should be the first thing?

Very sad but rather them than us. It might be us one day which is why we shouldn’t be complacent and demand a stronger FA. BM Absolutely we all know money is out of control when we see some of the fees being paid for distinctly average players. The only way to stop it is to have a wage cap and limit budgets in some way as in most US sports. Will the Premier league big boys have that? No chance they will break away before accepting such rules it would cripple them in the chase of European titles.

Give it 20 years and we may not have anyone to play against...

In exactly the same way accountants would assess any other Business or Company via Due Diligence (but done in a correct and professional manner!)

Is there a possibility that there just aren’t enough fit and proper businesses that want to own football clubs?
Lets face it, it’s a bad investment generally.

If you or any other readers would like to read the detailed paper we have presented to the FA, PM me with your email address and I’ll happily send you a copy Isn't the problem that there appears to be no-one who wants to buy Bury ? In instances likes shouldn't the EFL work with the fans group before they have to start over again, just guessing but I bet the amounts involved are probably less than we would expect to spend on a fairly standard championship player and premier league clubs spend buying players for their u23s

If the EFL had done their job properly and ensured that the owners were ‘fit an proper’ then there’d be no need for anyone to worry would there? How do you guarantee they’re fit and proper though? You should put the onus on the prospective purchaser of a club to prove to the FA that he has the financial assets to enable him to a) buy the club b) run the club and c) cope with any debts that the club has after it is taken over. If he can't prove that he has the finance (or access to the finance at a reasonable cost) to enable him to do this then he doesn't get permission to buy the club - end of story. If it transpires after the event that he lied or produced fake evidence in his submission to the FA then he should face prosecution.

I know that's what I was saying those teams would break away before allowing the best players to go abroad which would cripple their chances in Europe. My mistake I thought it was obvious players would leave as a consequence of a wage cap.

Perhaps a model that was based on some peecentage of supporter or shared ownership would solve this problem somewhat. The German model of no single owner, 7 partners suggested would be a fair start imo. Most of these problems are xaused by a single large ahareholder with more than 50%. Forcung boatd concensus would help. Would be easy to introduce through Lg2 as an experiment. 99% of all Spanish lower tiers are group owned by supporters or Community.
I'm of the view that football does need to be run as a business but clubs are a community thing and having specific business based rules is normal in lots of other businesses.

But point taken thanks, be more careful and spell things out so those who need to be spoon fed or nit pick can understand 😉

People should really read up on the Bury situation, particularly surrounding their previous owner. There is rightly a lot of focus on their current owner, and particularly how he has never completed the fit and proper persons test, but a lot of the noise around what went on before would make your eyes water.
I haven't spoken to my Bury supporting mate for a while but some of the stories he was telling me I simply can't relay on here, but he said he would be surprised if this didn't end up in custodial sentences somewhere down the line.
It really is staggering what has gone on, if what he has told me ends up being true. It isn't often I am stuck for words but I was left absolutely speechless.

Some stunning aloofness being shown here, this can happen to nearly any club at any time so lax are the current regulations in place. You can’t watch idly and just say “I’m alright Jack”.

It can’t happen to us though can it unless the coates family sell to the venkys overnight I’m sure Blackburn fans thought the same when Jack Walker took them to a title. Or Bolton when the late Garside was carrying them into Europe. Football’s volatile and owners can come and go on a whim, when Peter steps down who knows what will happen. John looks like he’s set to carry the torch but who knows. It can always happen and has happened to many a club after the departure of stable owners.
