My first sporting hero. Too young to really appreciate him properly, but I was mad on him when I was a kid.

Thanks for posting the video. I never tire of watching the one, the only, the great Jimmy Greenhoff, my all time favourite Stoke player, quite simply one of the finest players ever to wear the red and white stripes.
Just some random thoughts.
Seeing some of the other players there I'm reminded just how good they were, such as Jimmy Robertson, John Mahoney, Huddy, Geoff Salmons, Geoff Hurst, Pej, Jackie Marsh, TC, Dobing, Eastham, absolute top notch.
How good was that away kit we wore at Sheff U? Mint. Love the way Jimmy celebrates his first goal at Sheff U.
It's often assumed that the best partnership was Jimmy and Big John Ritchie but Jimmy and Ian Moores wasn't bad either.
The goal at Blues is justifiably remembered as one of Jimmy's best but the one v Arsenal when he cheekily chips it in is a joy to watch again.
If my memory's right the only game I wasn't at was Palace away, I was at all the others.

Younger supporters who are more used to players coming and going quite quickly will probably never comprehend how gut-wrenchingly sad and painful the departure of Jimmy Greenhoff was.

A perfect gentleman, too. I was buying a ticket at the old Victoria ground and he was just about to leave. He had a quick word with me and I wished him well. Not many modern players would acknowledge a fan in this way. His departure signalled a period of decline for the club as it struggles to pay its way after the debacle of the stand roof blowing away in a gale and being inadequately insured.

Great player - good with either foot, good in the air, could hold up the ball and lay it off, or feed off a target man. The ultimate all-round striker, and he actually improved with age until injuries finally caught up with him. Oddly though, he was a scorer of great goals but never all that prolific regarding numbers - not sure if he ever scored more than 15 league goals in a season?

Happiest time of my life when Jimmy was in the Stoke team. Loved the bloke to bits. You know how good he was, when you can picture him in your mind! As above, some of those players mentioned, will live in my memory for ever! Happy days!

Now living here in the Algarve ( still got our season tickets ) that video brought back so many wonderful memories, he was a superb all round striker and probably the best I've ever seen volley the ball.
That 70's team was brilliant even on some of the worst pitches, Huddy seemed to revel gliding around a muddy pitch, we all knew he liked a drink but he was incredibly fit. A number of us used to have a drink in the North Stafford Hotel on a Saturday a after a game, Huddy and Geoff Salmon's ,were always in having a couple, great blokes.

He was one of my favourite players before he signed for us, and I was ecstatic when I read that he had joined us. Brilliant player for us - great goals, great memories. As a teenager I was absolutely devastated when Jimmy was sold.
Happy Birthday Jimmy !

Don't remember what macth it was ,but after he left he appeared in the players box by the boothen, the whole boothen erupted with greenhoff greenhoff ,it affected him that bad he had to walk out, i know for a fact he was overcome with tears, he begged not to leave but the board had made there mind up he had to go to raise some cash, I have a framed signed 1972 Stoke top in my conservatory. Also a signed personal message from him, worst day ever when they sold him.

Happy birthday Jimmy. My all time favourite Stoke player. I was lucky enough to watch many of your brilliant performances for Stoke. England missed out on a great talent. Revie just couldn't admit that he had made a great mistake in selling Jimmy.

Had the pleasure of meeting him in ManUtd’s Red Cafe where he was doing the chatty thing to guests (before the abuse begins yes, Stoke were the opposition that day!) Lovely fella and, after Alan Hudson, IMO the best player ever to play for us. Happy Birthday Jim.

Great player but I wonder if he reads this he thinks why was I target for the infamous stone boo boys because make no mistake he was I don't recall him being a target for the boo boys. Had some banter with Leeds fans....mid 70's.... before a game and they were saying can we have Greenhoff and I said only if we can have Clarke who was probably the best striker in the country at that time. Their response, you can have him, he's shit 😂
