I doubt many on here will be watching as you seem engrossed in women's football . But this proper footie tournament should be interesting and decent quality. I hope we have some scouts watching the games (do we actually still have any?) as there could be some gems to be had. Would make a change from Barnsley and Charlton 'gems'.

How is Boothroyd within a million miles of our best talent?

I can’t believe I don’t know this.....but.....
......has it always been the rule that the penalty taker can’t follow up if it hits post or bar???

Foden won't be at under 21 level for long, Southgate needs to get him in his midfield asap.

Strange player Choudhury. Saw him play one time for Burton and he was abysmal. In fact he could have sent off twice over that night and was eventually subbed to cheers from his own fans.

Brilliant management from Boothroyd, bringing on Abraham and Calvert-Lewin when going down to 10 men.

Brilliant management from Boothroyd, bringing on Abraham and Calvert-Lewin when going down to 10 men. It stunk of arrogance didn't it and massively backfired. You know if you've got ten men you're going to need an out-ball to get the team up the pitch and relieve the pressure, he brings on Abraham who is equipped to do that and then leaves him wide left to track the full back! I don't think it was a great performance overall, we were sloppy in possession too often and you can't allow for Dasilva and Wan Bissaka's defending for the goals but you need to manage the game better than that at this level! Phil Foden aside who was a class apart this team still has a long way to go, will struggle to get out of this group now.

The defence is pretty crap and we have no DM.

Best team won to be fair. I can't agree or disagree with that since I focused on the Women's World Cup game between Brazil and Italy. 1-0 btw. Both teams through. But I saw the English 1-0 goal live, and then followed by 1-2 - goals I didn't see. And after these two games they only showed 8 replays of the English 1-0-goal!!! Anyway. The commentators here said: "One of the most unfair game results I've seen lately. The French side had absolutely nothing except for the two goals. And England should have had a 3-0-lead at half time." ⚽

I take it the commentator thought England were in blue

In response to Sam Lawrence, indeed it has,” writes Andrew. “I had the pleasure of witnessing the baffled Peter Reid watch his goal get disallowed after he hit his penalty against the post and scored from the rebound at Elland Road in 1991.” As an aside, John Lukic’s shirt is a delightful added bonus. Me and Peter Reid. I still can’t believe i never knew it. Makes perfect sense but never realized it!!

Will be interesting to see who he plays in DM in the next game now Choudhury is suspended, doesn't seem like there's another obvious alternative in that squad to me. Maddison struggled when he dropped deeper tonight. It certainly is a long term problem for England, Winks seems about the closest thing we have in terms of a player who can provide that link in a deep lying role but the jury is still out on him.

Brilliant management from Boothroyd, bringing on Abraham and Calvert-Lewin when going down to 10 men. And then using them as defenders as we had no outlet when the ball went forward 10 v11 isn’t that bad of a difference with players of that calibre to turn to those tactics with virtually TWENTY minutes to go as many teams train 10 v 11 to counter it It was like watching a league 2 side desperately trying to hang on to a lead v Manchester City when in reality it should of been like watching a Liverpool v Manchester City The penalty and the sending off came from probably the 6th simple pass we needlessly gave away under no pressure all night with that £50m rated Palace bloke involved in 4 of them It was actually embarrassing

Lampard changed his formation and at the time I wondered what the hell he was doing v 10 men. He basically put a player hugging each touchline and they became almost redundant in the game letting us boss the middle of the park a man down. Last night England took off the wide men for strikers...was a strange thing to do rather than just try and tighten the game up in other areas but I guess we're all armchair managers.

That was one of my points, he brought on two strikers to replace the wide players but they were part of a 9 man ( plus the keeper) rearguard and every time the ball was kicked clear nobody was there Why didn’t he either bring on two defensive minded players or leave Demari Gray on to keep the French on their toes and to chase the channels Piss poor management all round given the talent at his disposal
