Not really big on motorsport but this isn't too bad. Unfortunately 5 laps in and I haven't got the faintest idea who's leading.

I've enjoyed the documentaries on it. Not sure I could watch much of it live and not get bored.

I was coerced to go on a stag do about 15 years ago and this was the venue, apart from dire campsite and facilties, the race was about as enthralling as watching paint dry , much prefer motorbikes as a spectator sport. We left early on the Sunday morning and to say I was happy to get home was an understatement. Ironically it’s a real mix of the super rich and the everydays, so while you’re watching it in squalor you can see the lucky sods flying in and out in helicopters at their leisure

Unashamed plug right there If 'World of Sport' was still going you wouldn't have to plug it Dutch,it'd be there, free to view for all and probably on a Satdee. ALong with proper motorsports like banger racing. 😉

Not quite the same as race day admittedly but you get a rough idea. Unfortunately my Ford Orion couldn't do it justice.

I worked at Le Mans twice in the mid 90's and I really can't be doing with it, and used to find it impossible to know what was happening after four or five hours.. I used to work in motorsport in the 80's/90's (BTCC, Rallying, BSB, WSB, and occasionally MotoGP) and much prefer them all to Le Mans or F1 and the "personalities" and "characters" involved. There's some really obnoxious characters who are so far up their own backsides it's incredible. The others, BTCC, Rallying etc are much more down to earth, more enjoyable to be involved in, and you can actually follow the event, who's winning, who's got problems etc.
Even though it's on the telly every year I only ever watch (if at all) the last half hour or so. I much prefer to watch Eurosport's cycling coverage than Le Mans.

I've got a mate who's a marshal at many rallying events, he loves it and wouldn't do anything else, apart from guarding on the steam railway. He basically reiterates what you've said about the characters.

Also watch the fist 10 minutes and last hour - the bit in the middle mehhhh and being there in person for the entire event I would imagine would be about the same. Went to Sebring in the 90s, good day out. Otherwise I'll stick to Dallas Indy Car GP - 4 hours and back to the hotel for beer.
