I downloaded a john peel torrent recently, containing lots of festive fifties including an all time festive fifty compiled in 2000. Amongst a lot of quality tunes was "My favourite dress" by the wedding present, who i never really knew anything of, but i really liked the song, or more accurately I really liked the guitars in the last minute or two after the singing stops. The rest of it i am fairly ambivalent about.
I've got a copy George Best, the album containing this track, on order from amazon, but what else does a young man of 25 need to know about this band? Have I just wasted a precious £6.68?

I really like The Wedding Present. George Best is a very good album as are Bizarro and Take Fountain but the guitar is generally slower on that.
A good Wedding Present track is "This Boy Can Wait" from the NME C86 compilation. Probably on a torrent somewhere.

George Best is a cracking album, especially the first side (he said, showing his age). "Everyone thinks he looks daft" is a belter.
David Gedge, the 'singer' is a top bloke and the band still tours regularly I think.

Saw the Wedding Present up Keele University many many years ago. Top band.

Top band - . To carry on the theme, I'd suggest the Birthday Party - , a genius in an early manifestation.
