Why does that matter so much to you? Because we are told the Manager has the final say. In the case of the player in question which Manager would that be? All things being equal who was responsible for spunking 8 million quid on Palacios? The Pizza Boys? Bearing in mind this was 8 years ago. H

I thought he was a sound character after seeing him play in Norway for Bodø Glimt, but it obviously didn't take long before he looked upon himself as a star too big for the Championship! This is the reason why I really can't defend his statements at all any longer that selfish twat! Have you seen much of Ifeanyi Mathew at Lillestrom? Thoughts? No, sorry but I've not even heard of him.

All this bile and hatred for a fella who simply doesnt want to waste his time in a shit EFL league(I can sympathise in a way). Yes its fucking annoying but, Im sure he did not sign up to play in such a shit cut throat league(bit like Uk joining the EEC and finding out its really the EU) ...And, as for dissing Turkish big clubs, to be fair,Im in Turkey right now and, they are just that: fucking big clubs with massive crazy support, and, real clout and status...My take? having such players in our midst with such crap attitudes is entirely self inflicted, pure and simple.(and again you have to point the finger toward the clubs incumbent administration) as much as the player and his agent for yet another pretty shocking state of afairs). The point is no other club is willing (foolish) enough to pay what we paid for him and meantime we are dumping literally wheelbarrows full of pound notes in his front hall each and every week for which he is doing the best part of fuck all.

What has the signing of Palacios got to do with the signing of this particular player? Because nothing has changed has it? The common denominator being people who are still at the club. H Our activity has been mixed, like any other club, up to 15/16. Up to that point we made some good signings and some bad, even when you factor in Palacios (The year after, we signed Adam, Nzonzi and Butland for example). From 15/16, Shaqiri aside, our dealings have been poor (putting it kindly), especially those with big fees attached.

Many of these wondrous signings were I guess, merely the result of us desperately trying to 'push on' in an over-inflated market where you generally get jacksh!t for your money. Sadly, we rarely unearthed a 'gem' although it could be argued that, whilst it lasted, Marko and Shaq were a cut above. Thing is, due diligence is required to get the right characters but I guess we were fishing in the pond where you might get a decent goldfish for your money but he's got a few character flaws to go with it or he'd be in a big fish pond already not joining our little kitchen worktop tank! Badou should've given us a season but like the rest, all think they're too good. Now we at least stand the chance of getting a few decent characters in aswell as hopefully having the ability to play a bit as we are a relatively big fish financially in this division. Some of our weirder signings will always be just that. We got Tuncay, who Tone hadn't got a scooby what to do with but I guess it was Huthy he was after. Wimmer? Well, who knows there. I guess we have a list of who we'd like and having been rejected by all the others end up with option 50 or summat The only way is to home grow I do believe thus hopefully nurturing the right mentality and character. The hard part now will be to hang on to the best ones long enough to do this. Which ever way you dress it up, anywhere below the top 6 in the Prem and you're pretty much scrapping around the ankles of those at the top table with the gulf getting wider all of the time.

The idea that Ndiaye's signing is some kind of smoking gun that proves the manager doesn't have a say on transfers is as flawed as it is boring.
I don't believe Pulis only signed Tuncay to sign Huth either.

Ndiaye was linked earlier in the transfer window while Hughes was still manager. I'm not sure what that indicates one way or the other, but I thought I'd chuck it in there.

It's commonly assumed, that isn't the same thing. Why would we have to pay £11m for Huth? That was a lot of money back then for a Championship centre half, and there wasn't exactly a bidding war for him, plus Boro were trying to cut costs at the time? Pulis wanted Huth because he was exactly his sort of player and wanted Tuncay because he had a hard-on for a big name even when he didn't know what to do with him. I dare say Levy tried to bundle in Crouch and Palacios as a two for one but I don't believe Pulis didn't want Palacios. On paper he was TP's wet dream of a cage dwelling midfielder.

It Certainly felt like that at the time, I can't remember pulis raving about tuncay

Pulis signed loads of players who weren't 'Pulis types' because they were names and he couldn't resist. Berger, Gudjohnsen, Adam and Owen were all similar signings. Nobody's making Pulis sign a player he didn't want without serious toy throwing. Remember his (rightful) contempt for 'Triggy and Ziggy'? Remember him referring to Brek Shea as 'Bret' or 'The Kid'? Remember him demanding full control of transfers before he'd agree to take over at West Brom?

It just seemed to me that Boro tried to cut a deal to get both off their books and we decided at £5m tuncay was worth the gamble when we were struggling to get in them next level players. Maybe they wanted more for huth but offered both for £10m and we went along with it. It may not be the case but It did seem that way at the time

Because nothing has changed has it? The common denominator being people who are still at the club. H Tony Pulis left in 2013 Promise you this when Scholes and Coates have long gone we will still make bad signings Every signing has been, and will continue to be a “risk” whether it’s for a fee, free or loan. There are numerous reasons why they fail, some for footballing reasons and others that are non football related. That is why a well managed robust recruitment/transfer process is essential. IMHO since the arrival of Cartwright in December 2012 and the change in policy (sustainability) we have (with few exceptions) failed miserably to manage effectively the recruitment/transfer process. It’s easy to reflect and comment on the signings of Imbula, Wimmer, Berahino etc. however we’ve had a significant influx of players who have not repaid the investment. The well used terms due diligence, scouting and red flags appear to be flawed rhetoric or sound bites from those directly involved. Although it’s a fine line for the family to tread I am surprised that they “appear” not to have been more forceful in their management of their club and their financial support for recruitment/transfer process. Here’s hoping for an up-turn in the quality of our recruitment for the forthcoming season which will see us celebrating come next May.

People started to surmise it when Tuncay didn't get a game but that was classic Pulis buyer's remorse as we'd seen with Berger. He didn't know what to do with him. Why would Tuncay come willingly as a makeweight when he'd been linked to Liverpool and Chelsea that same summer?
