Too much negativity around our fanbase. I get that the club has been going through a very rough 2-3 years but fans moaning at everything we do isn’t going to help. I understand not all fans are like this, but the minority if pessimists have been growing and growing and it will do the club no good. There are certainly times when a good moan is necessary, but there are also time when some positivity wouldn’t go amiss. I’m usually a fan that just views the negativity but decides not to comment, but I think it’s worth mentioning that I truly believe if we stay positive, get behind Jones’ plan and the new players that join, it will create the world of difference. Time for a huge summer for Jones and the players but we have to be with them every step along the way!!

Are you talking about in the ground or on here? ....or both. There is a big difference imho.
I don't think there is much doubt that come the beginning of the season everyone will be fired up and behind the team (whoever that is made up of)
Whether folk are positive or negative on a forum is neither or there for the most part.
The Oatcake is obviously an important forum for folk to air their a great range of emotions including their grievances, concerns, anxieties, joys, optimism and pessimism.
I agree the vibe in the ground obviously impacts on performance but I think on matchdays the support has been pretty positive considering (the mess) and I don't see much evidence that what goes on here manifests itself in the ground, home or away.
Support based negativism was not the biggest problem last season imho. The players and staff should have been able to deal better with the anxieties that was felt and expressed last season. What should they expect? Happy clapping when it takes us a couple of days to get a shot on target? They have to take some responsibility for firing up support at times. Stoke fans have shown that they are ready to support their team enthusiastically and vociferously with just a bit of effort from the team.

I don't think there are equivalent words in the potteries dialect to cover "positive attitude".

Considering we have gone in 3 short years from a hat trick of top half Prem finishes to 16th in the Championship I think most folks are remarkably sanguine about the whole thing.
I would describe the general mood as more punch drunk than anything else.

I would describe the general mood as more punch drunk than anything else. I’m fully aware of that mate and I do think our fans have been right at times to show our frustrations. However, we need to be positive going into the future, or else things won’t get better, so let’s back the lads!!

People have a right to moan, I certainly have. Look at some of the stats over the last 3 years. The amount of wins and goals scored is absolutely shocking. Not everyone has their heads buried in the sand and happy claps no matter what.

Next season, we will begin to see what an excellent manager we have at Stoke City.

We've had this many times. "If only the fans would get behind the players, they'd deliver the goods". We've done that, over and over again, and they haven't.
The starting point is for the manager and the team to start giving us something to be positive about, and then the fans will certainly follow suit.
Roaring on a team of mostly lazy good for nothings who couldn't care one jot about the club or the fans, is not going to achieve anything.
Nothing at all last season gave us anything to be positive about. Not one thing. Not under Rowett. Not under Jones. Not even a tiny 'green shoot of recovery'. So it's down to Jones to start to providing some sort of a sign that we are going to turn this round. Blaming the fans for being angry that we're so crap isn't the answer.

Not everyone has their heads buried in the sand and happy claps no matter what. What an absolutely pathetic response. Not at all what my post was suggesting. I am more than aware fans will moan, just like I do myself. However, I am talking about fans that moan just for the sake of it, who write off players before they join, fans that slate our very few good performers the likes of butland etc, fans who want jones out without being willing to give him a chance. I for one am not a happy clapper and I am more than aware of what’s gone wrong at the club. However, the overly negative responses from some fans is pathetic and if I’m honest, some fans on here seem like they are just looking for attention with what they say. We won’t ever go anywhere if this attitude continues!

We need a good start to next season like never before. Out on the 'B' of the 'Bang' of the starters gun as sprinters say. No fanny'ing around until about October. We need to give folks some reason to hope and believe !

We are charged too much - and also have access to a lot of information - not to have a critical (i.e. discerning) view of how the club is run. We can't ask fans to be deliberately stupid and naive, when its clear the club's top management are incompetent and several players aren't good enough to jusify their salary or value. That said, I don't see outright negativity, by and large, I see Stoke fans having a sense of realism. The goodwill and optimism still afforded to NJ, after an extremely poor half a season of results, is rare in its benevolence.

We need to be realistic. Let’s get through this window, and then evaluate it at the end, or even after the first couple of months of the season, when we see how well the new signings perform. I think there will be a lot more to come this window!

Pre season is the key to this
The last few seasons the team rock up on the first game of the season, unfit, off the pace and are embarrassed by the opposition
How can you possibly get the fans to react positively to that
If the players turn up unfit and off the pace AGAIN on day one, the knives will be out straight away for NJ and the lads
And unfortunately, quite right too
If you are so called professionals and you turn up unfit and unprepared on day one, you deserve all the abuse, you are 100 per cent most definitely going to get

Good to see the positivity is slowly creeping back into our fan base. Now only two weeks away from the start of the season, let’s make sure we go to the bet 365 stadium on August 3rd and sing our hearts out for our boys in red and white!

I think you're right - it is creeping back in very very cautiously... You'd have to be made of granite not to have been fucked off with the entirety of last year though
