Potential for this to be over very quickly.....

The Sri Lankan anthem went on longer than their openers but they have recovered a little bit. Looks like a good batting wicket though so I would think that they would need at least 300 to put England under any pressure.

Something I've noticed about the lower-ranked teams is that a lot of their better batsmen have been very selfish. Relatively slow scoring rates in order to build their own scores at the expense of the teams' ambitions to win.
Sri Lanka are no mugs and could conceivably have won this game, at least before play started. Fernando gave it a go, but Mendis & Mathews have 3 boundaries (3 x fours, no sixes) from 105 deliveries faced as I type. I'm sorry, but even if our bowling is excellent (I don't know, I can't watch at work), that just isn't good enough.

In fairness to them, they know there ain't much to follow them so with losing quick wickets they have to bat time. If one of them goes, there's a good chance they'll be bowled out in very quick time. As it is, they've managed to bat out their 50 overs (or close to it - 48 overs now gone) and at least given England a 200+ target. Not great, but better than being skittled for 100+.

Great to see Mark Wood play well, here's hoping his conversion to a longer run up can give him a sustained period of fitness.

Second golden duck of the tournament for Bairstow who’s having a distinctly average tournament by his standards.
We really need him to find some form if Roy doesn’t return from injury.

He hit 90 in the last innings, no need to worry! Against the worst team at the tournament. He hasn’t looked himself so far, he’s been a bit tentative. Like Roy, he’s at his best when he plays without fear.

This is the type of game where Root becomes so important - like Williamson for New Zealand
Let's hope he continues his good form.
A good test for England though. Our batsmen need to figure how to win this game. Another couple of cheap wickets and this could be very tricky.

Making very hard work of this chase. Buttler is another one having a very disappointing tournament so far.
Time for Moeen to show he can bat using his brain.

Not looking great for England - but we're not finished yet.
That said, great to see Malinga turning back the years. Top bowler.

The way the groups has fallen, it’s unlikely we won’t make the Semis, far too many of the teams below us playing each other or having a game against India etc. But that’s one on the bowlers and one on the batsmen now. Moeen Ali has to look at himself for that ridiculous shot ,a tripping Alex Hales is twice the player James Vince is and Plunkett should play no matter what. Stokes played the perfect knock for that wicket, Root also before his strangle. Everyone else needs to have a serious conversation with themselves.

Well played Sri Lanka, I didn’t give them a hope before the match.
I still fancy England to go on and win it but that was an absolutely rancid batting performance. Hopefully that puts to bed the myth that we ‘bat deep’. No one after Buttler can be relied on to get us over the line in tight matches.

Brain dead batting from England.
Vince isn’t the answer, let’s hope Roy is back on Tuesday.
Plunkett will replace Rashid I would imagine as well.....

Credit to Sri Lanka, they played well. I thought Malinga was past it but the old boy showed he can still do it. That said, England really should have won this but for some sloppy batting. England are a very good team but they do throw these performances up every few matches and they do seem particularly vulnerable on slow wickets that are not easy for stroke play. Suddenly they are under a bit of pressure with the three most difficult matches to come. If they lose to Australia then the alarm bells will really start to ring.

I have just sat and watched India struggle to 224-8 against Afghanistan.
Rashid Khan recovered from his 0-110 to take 1-38 against a team who are masters of playing spin, including completely bamboozling M S Dhoni to get him stumped.
What happened to the great run fest on batsmen friendly tracks that we were told would be the ruination of bowlers?
This could be an interesting afternoon.

With the Bangladesh result I'm starting to think tomorrow is must win. Roy still out injured is hurting us big time with that charlatan Vince having to play in his place.

Hope I'm not the only one absolutely bricking myself today!
Lose this and it's a must win from India and New Zealand which really doesn't appeal to me I have to say.

I'm feeling nervous as well. Looks a good toss to win. I'm a bit surprised that we have picked two spinners given the conditions. Would like to have seen Plunket or Curren included and use Root as a second spinner if required.

I know I sound like a stuck record about him but how can you drop your best middle over bowler and a guy who repeatedly produces with the bat down the order?

Don’t think it’s a bad toss to lose for the Aussies. The two games we’ve lost so far we were chasing.
Surprised we’ve gone with two spinners, I’d have gone with Curran instead of Mo.
