The right decision.
Willey’s bowling isn’t that great albeit he’s good up top when the balls moving around, and his batting has regressed massively. Archer has the X factor......

Great squad that. Do feel sorry for Willey as he produced in the past and is our only real swing bowler.
Not sure why Dawson was included? I can't see him getting a game barring injury.
Roy, Bairstow, Buttler and Morgen all in great form. Root is never out of form. Only issues appear to be Moeen Alli and Stokes with the bat at the moment but we will always bat down to number 11.
We will breeze the league stage and probably get stage fright in the semi-finals

It's what I would've gone with, just them 11am starts, weather bit dull he would be useful. Don't see it being pivotal at all, going be mainly about the batting, can see new highest scores being set. Think it will be India or ourselves to win it.

He’s a potential match winner with his bat down the order though mate Sadly though somebody has to drop out and for the first time I can ever remember there’s been no outright obvious choice for it

You can't help but feel sorry for Willey, he's been in and around this top side for ages but that's the cruelty of top level sport.
Will be at Trent Bridge next month for our second game. Really looking forward to seeing Archer for real.

As for Dawson, been in great form and a back up spin bowler is needed neither Root or Denly are good enough id Ali or Rashid get injured. It's a damn fine squad in fabulous form. Should be a cracking summer of cricket. Hope to get over from USA for some games.

For once we are going into a world cup with a genuine opportunity, I can't wait for it to start. I can see the momentum is with Archer and he needed to be included.

Willey’s batting apart from one innings that’s sticks in my mind has been largely poor.....

Willey was the obvious one to miss out. If the ball isn’t swinging he just doesn’t have the pace or variations to trouble batsmen.
Dawson is much better back up to the spinners than Denly. He’s not going to spin sides out but you know if he’s called upon he’ll keep it tight and not bowl 2/3 long hops every over like Denly.
Stokes and Ali are the only two worries form-wise. Stokes bowling has regressed massively and he seems to have lost his X factor with the bat. That said, he still looks capable of staying at the crease if we have a collapse.
Ali’s batting is that bad at the moment we may as well bat him 9 or lower. He just doesn’t seem to have brain when he comes out to bat. He’s not bowing as well as he was last summer either.
We should cruise through the first round of games, the worry, as ever, will come at the knockout stage when the pitches are worn.

That is an excellent squad.
It has everything - well apart from a left hand quick bowler.
But what it does have is (and has been) awesome.
Very pleased to see Dawson selected. Very, very pleased to see Archer picked.
Of course we can fuck things up, but this is by some distance the best ODI squad we have ever gone into a World Cup with and it is also the best squad in this World Cup. Other teams will know they can beat us, but they will all be fearful of what we can do to them.
C'mon England!!

We look like a side that can knock almost any total off batting second. I do worry about us batting second with our bowling.

Have Woakes, Archer and Wood played in the same team yet during the warm up games?!.. our bowling can be expensive but with these 3 in the same side I think we'll be a lot better in that department.

I think somehow, somewhere we'll manage to snatch defeat from the haws if victory - it's just what we do isn't it !
I really hope we'll win it, but I just fear we'll mess it up somehow.

I dunno D, I have a reasonable measure of confidence that we will win it. Probably not enough to put real money on it, as the bookies are no doubt offering stupidly low odds, but this team regularly does the opposite of snatching defeat - it often finds a way to win from unlikely positions.
The batting is phenomenal, certainly, but I'm probably even more pleased about the bowling (and the squad selection). I'd say nearly all the bowlers are aggressive wicket takers. Too often in the past we seem to have gone in with defensive tactics purely to try and keep run rates low.
Sure, more aggressive bowling with more variations can go for the odd big over, but it is also much more likely to take wickets. A wicket will probably stem runs for an over or so - so at a stage where we might be going for 10 an over on average, a wicket or two could save 10, 20 runs on the total.
I do hope we win, but don't really mind who does with one exception - my mantra for the tournament - "Anyone But The Crims "
(Crims = Criminals = Aussies)

16/20 bilateral series won since 2015......home advantage....we're never going to have a better chance.
I just hope we don't allow a pitch like Cardiff in 2017 to be prepared again, incredibly slow. I'd back us at pretty much every other ground in the country tbh.

I think it will be England, Aus, India and West Indies in the semis with Aus vs India in the final.
First game today England v SA. Green wicket apparently which England aren’t happy with. Watch out for SA with their quicks (I think steyn is out though).

There will be some sort of poor decision or a rain affected game that will stop England (Its just England). West Indies vs Australia Final for me. Wouldn't put my house on it though

The important thing to do in this format is not panic, you only have to be better than 6 other teams, compared to the all or nothing nature of smaller groups. Pakistan were essentially out of the tournament in 1992 with this group system before getting their act together. We’ve beaten virtually all of these teams in home conditions over the last 4 years. Once you get to the semi finals it’s anyone’s tournament.

Been excited for this day for ages, now it’s here i’m bricking it. Got horrible visions of Rabada and Ngidi ripping through us this morning.
Let’s hope we can get a decent score as South Africa’s batting doesn’t look anything special.

Bairstow out first ball. Pitch is doing things. Need our best test batsman to stick around a bit and see us through.

Roy and Root fall in quick succession - Morgan and Stokes both taking the attack to S.A. 167-3 after 29 overs.

If Stokes gets into the batting groove this tournament then the England line up is truly formidable.
