I'm right in thinking that when City beat us in 2011 that United clinched the Premier on the same day , Blackburn ? Bizarre how it has become more and more of a nuisance to teams. Even get comfortable mid table teams like Leicester and Bournemouth making 8 or 9 changes. I could probably name every FA Cup final from about 1970 to 1995 . Since then I'd struggle really. Arsenal Dippers was great game . Apart from knowing Pompey and Cardiff got to finals and the Wigan win I've no idea who played who and when It was a 12:30 ko mate The only time the cup final has clashed with a full fixture list. All games were either 12:30 or 5:30 It’s never happened again ...That was the one and only time the cup final was on the same day

Another killer for the competition is the ongoing battle between the FA and Premier League ( see my post above also)
The Premier League started having midweek fixtures after a cup weekend meaning clubs would play depleted sides

On bbc 1 now. Starting at the teamhotel with both teams walks ground their respective hotels. Great clips of previous rounds, suit fittings, fans travelling, interviews, personal stories etc Following the bus from 11 Walks about on pitch at 1 More features. My chair and telly. That’s me for the day Like the old days. Pity I'm out for the day I've just realised that this isnt actually happening

A taster of what it was like with 8 hours on the other side as well! Seems incredible looking back Throw in a bit of comedic Nazi's as well Haha could you imagine all the snowflakes having a coronary these days if Freddie Starr did that in these modern times! You'd need to conduct a seance for a start.

FA Cup final. England v Scotland and the European cup final. Also a UEFA cup or ECWC final but only if there was British team. The week after the Cup Final there was normally a schoolboy International at Wembley the following weekend which created that bizarre high pitched crowd noise. Dario's highlight of the season that was.

Yeah good shout but it gets lost in today’s football overkill and not many remember it for that reason The Arsenal one was spoken about for years and still gets mentioned today Mcilroy, Mcilroy MCILROY 😊

The best cup final for me was Arsenal v Man Utd around 1979? Agree with this. Though again it's maybe an over 45 age thing but a lot of the finals still resonate with me. Liverpool United 77 the looping deflection . Ipswich where the guy virtually collapsed when he scored in 78. The Smith must score moment. All iconic finals to us oldies. As you rightly say the saturation and overkill has contributed to the demise

The magic of the cup final for me was when I was a schoolkid throughout the 70s, choosing which side I wanted to win, and then supporting them like they were my own team.
I can remember who contested every cup final from 70 through to about 88, then it just gets hazy. I genuinely can't remember who played in last years final. I just don't care anymore who's in the final or who wins it.
It saddens me, because those early 70s cup finals in particular are some of the clearest and most exciting memories of my childhood.
I had a rich aunt and uncle who threw a big family party for the 71 final between Arsenal and Liverpool, because that's what people did. They had a colour telly. I'd never seen one before. Imagine that. The grass at Wembley was actually green, not grey. Who knew?
It was absolutely awesome. I didn't see another TV program in colour until the next year's final between Leeds and Arsenal when we did the whole thing again.
Now there's nothing new and it's wall to wall football, and it just feels bland and empty.

And after the game, my brother and I would go out and replay the game. The FA cup was a huge deal. Magical. As for the 71 final, I was still in shock after Hillsborough and then Villa Park. I definitely watched it, but in a state of numbness. That state has barely worn off after 48 years.

I hate citeh so much I'd nearly sacrifice a defeat in our opening game of next season if it meant them losing today, but...........
If Watford start singing their fucking ultra's but sounds like a bloody nursery school na,na,na,na,na,na.....Watford FC na,na,na,na,na,na....they're the team for me
Then they can fuck right off and citeh can smash them.😁

My dream is for Stoke to win this. Have dreamt about it since becoming a Stoke fan. Wigan beating City, after us losing to them was a kick in the teeth for me. As for today, City for me. Another blow to the red shite!

Every cup final was memorable up until 1993 when Arsenal beat Sheff Wed.
After that I can’t remember a single final apart from 2011 (and I doubt anyone apart from Stoke or Man City fans remember that one).

Anyone who wants Manchester City to win any match needs a crack across the back of the head.
There has been no hard graft with years of building like Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and now Tottenham Hotspur. They even got a football stadium for peanuts. They lost 8-0 to Middlesbrough as a mid table side before winning the lottery a few matches later, signing Robhino and all of a sudden they can compete with the top 4 and the rest of Europe.
Like Chelsea, they are an awful club who have a support base who believed they were as big as Barcelona when they were playing Stoke City in Division Two.
I would gladly see Stoke City relegated on the day Port Vale win the Premiership if it meant Manchester City went out of business altogether. I f***ing hate them that much.

Watford have got a chance. The same chance a sheep has in an abbatoir. Clutching at straws maybe, but very few people gave Wimbledon a chance in 1988 when they were up against Liverpool.
