This is a thread where you can tell us things you learned from someone (friend, neighbour, family member, relative) early in life, as a small kid growing up, but found out later in life were completely wrong. So you had to relearn the right way, as an adult ...
I start ...
I was told it doesn't matter at all what you eat, since the body is a unique creation and will transform the stuff into the minerals and vitamines that it needs, no matter what.
You should always make sure to put a lot of air into the plastic bags first, when you put something into the freezer, to avoid bacteria.
I was told you can't get injured on a football pitch if you play on grass, since grass is soft. It's a different thing if you play on concrete, asphalt or gravel. Body contact can never hurt anyone.

Space, Gravity, Evolution.
The guiding, paternal hand of Government looking after us and with our best interests in mind.
Most of history. Columbus and such.

Remembered something else ...
If you save 50 SEK (=£4) every month, you will be able to buy a house when you're a grown up.
- In fact I did some calculations on this yesterday. A friend of mine and his wife bought a house for 5200000 SEK (£433333).
IF I had saved 50 SEK (£4) as I was told, it would have taken me 8333 years(!) to get that kind of same, ordinary house.
My friend told me they saved 20000 SEK each month for 22 years. Not 50 SEK ...
For three decades we have got almost NO interest at the banks over here. Atm it is actually negative, so we're losing money to have them there.

Chris Patten, “Mr Rees-Mogg’s views when he was an “eccentric” and “charming” eight-year-old were the same as they are now that he is 48.”
Perhaps that’s why Moggy still has his Nanny in employ...

The drugs don't work.
They do. There may be some unintended consequences but they work alright.

A particularly draconian teacher insisted that if I didn’t write with a fountain pen, I wouldn’t get far in life. Pen is long gone and I haven’t done that badly lol

The cannabis/hemp plant has no medicinal value or use.
It does, and many more values and uses besides.

Two things my mother told me about history that I've even passed on to my students:
1. The "ruff" neck apparel of the 16th Century was an attempt to prevent one's body odour from wafting up to one's nostrils in the age of poor hygiene.
2. "Gruel" is a thin porridge containing a high percentage of fried bacon rind.

It reminded me about another one during my childhood: "Spices are only used in food preparation to hide that the meat is old and dangerous to eat."

We should be building houses from it, using it as a fuel, using it for paper and most importantly using it to help save this planet we're busy destroying

I've since stopped talking to her and I'm certainly not her little punk rocker anymore 😤

When walking along a pavement we used to say "don’t tread on a crack or you’ll marry a black and a beetle will come to your party". Very wrong on so many levels.
