They have no long-term future as long as Stoke remain a top-six Champ/Premiership side.
The 'Pledge 5000' or whatever it's called is little more than a sticking-plaster. S-o-T is not a big enough city to sustain two football league clubs - Vale will slide into obscurity as a non-league side within the next 5-10 years.

Clubs with 6,000 odd ST holders do not slide into non-league obscurity...

Us in the prem will financially cripple fail, with their "fans" changing route to the britannia to watch premiership football, while they have an action packed home game vs Accrington Stanley. Goodbye Fail

Yes it's clearly had a huge effect already, what with their number of ST holders tripling.

Fail have been very clever with the 5,000 scheme. They expect now to seel around 6,000 which would comfortably see them as having one of the highest ave. attendaces in that league. If they go up, a similar scheme would see almost all 5,000 renewed as well as probably another 3-4 thousand. Fail could be looking at having around 9k season ticket holders next season IF they go up. Did we not have about 12k season ticket holders last season? If they can keep the fans in, they won't fade away into obscurity (unfortunately).

we had 7k season ticket holders last season
where has this the citys not big enough for 2 clubs rubbish come from? the population of the city is over 250000 at stoke this season we will only get 25000 stokies in the ground thats around 225000 people what wont be watching us and yeah some of them will be stoke fans who cant get in the brittannia but theres still plenty of people who would be able to go and watch the vale so stop with all the nonsense about the city not being big enough for two teams

I say fook the Vale and lets not fret about the people who are idiotic enough to pay whatever to watch sub standard football. The reason they are paying such a low price is due to the fact of there big games against the likes of Shrewsbury,Accrington and the likes and thats the only way to attract interest. We on the other hand are paying a good price to watch world class football with all the top names visiting the real home of football in the potteries.

Out of the 5000 pledges that have been made for season tickets at the Wembley of the North, it just makes me wonder that when push comes to shove just how many of these pledgers will actually part with their money.

On the other hand, if we do well then locals will get priced out of games while pillocks from abroad fly over to watch us...so the Vale could find a little more custom as a 'proper' footballing experience. Who knows? Hopefully we'll turn into ManUre but without the followers from everywhere.

Said before on another thread, great effort from the Vale faithful great effort from the club to the fans just needs a great effort from the team.
Despite a team in the City in the prem they have backed their team so goodluck to em.

Why should we be in the least interested in what Port Fail are or are not doing ??? SCFC would be ALOT bigger if it wasn't for Vale, all those fans who jumped on the Fail bandwagon in the late 80s/90s would've certainly been Stoke fans if it wasn't for that.

It's been like that for most of our histories, so why shouldn't they survive again? Yeah there were plenty of Vale 'gloryhunters' when they had their time in the sun but before then they had fans who stuck with them through thin and thinner even when their neighbours were consistently a top side. And, to be honest, hats off to them. And hats off to any of them who stick with them in the years ahead. I know which kind of football supporter I prefer.

Season tickets for £130 is bound to get punters through the gate - its also unsustainable unless gates increase significantly, as we witnessed with the £199 s/t's; i.e. a one-season effort. Has anyone thought exactly how many pay-on-the-day fans Vale will be getting? 6000 is pretty much the sum of Vale fans willing to go to Vale Park, there will be very little in the way of extra support. 6250 attendences look less impressive when only 250 will be paying on the day. As long as season tickets remain a competitive price at the Brit, floating fans in S-o-T will much rather watch Premiership football than League Two football. Fact.
Vale will survive as a football club, but will have to have an uncharacteristically excellent season not to continue a long-term decline in the era of the Premiership. Like it or (like me) not, the Premiership is all there is to English football at the moment - the gulf between it and the other leagues is too vast a chasm.

The Premiership is all there is to english football???..... Well all the other teams, including us should have packed up years ago as soon as it was formed. Mikeyb99, there was life before the premiership and there will be after. The main factor behind all teams is hope, that is what drives fans to see their teams.... It is what drove us back to stoke all these years. The chasm between us and the "other" leagues is not too vast...... if so, how did we do it???? yes it is great.. but not vast as we showed with a little luck, a lot of hope and plenty of passion.

GermanStokie, I didn't say I liked it (in fact I hate it, I wish the Premiership and all its money would go bust regardless of the damage it would do to us) but football in England is disproportionately weighted towards the Premiership. The media coverage, the 'fan'-base increases (gloryhunters etc), the money ... its easy for the Kent-based Manure fan to believe there is nothing outside of the Premiership. Until this changes, and real fans regain control over football in England - the Premiership dominates.
Not much room for clubs like Vale in this climate and in a (comparatively) small city.

If we stay in the Prem for a good few years, then surely we'll attract the up & coming fan even from the far reaches of Burslem n Tunstall, before they get brain washed into being Vale....
This happening will secure a much more successful fan base for generations to come....

True Mikey....... But unfortunately until Sky gets bored then the premiership will always be there to dominate. i agree with most of what you say, however similar areas to ours seem to have proportionately bigger rival clubs, i.e. the south Yorkshire cities, Bristol and even the multi surburban areas of London with the Premier distractions of Arsenal, Chelsea etc. we are similar in size and make up as sheffield and yet they have two clubs supported by similar/larger fan bases to ours!!! I'm sure we could increase our attendance and still have enough left over for the deranged in mind to go and visit vale

The Vale pretty much had to copy our pledge idea for this season, their fans had been calling for it ever since we launched our scheme. Had they not done it this season they'd have dwindled even further.
They've got bodies into the ground now, which equates to a better atmosphere. Question is, how much net new income does that translate to once you've taken the huge ticket discount into account, coupled with the fact that many of those fans would have bought matchday tickets anyway? I guess they've done the maths and worked out they had no choice.
It'll be interesting to see if they can sustain this momentum. Relegated teams fans often console themselves that at least they'll be winning week in, week out, but it's rarely that easy. Only time will tell if they've just saddled themselves with 6,000 whinging bastards who're not best pleased that they've just lost to Macclesfield.

Saddest thing is with the state of football finances as they are, their 6,000 STs are but a drop in the ocean when you realise we'll get £62M whether anyone turns up or not.
It's nice to be on the right side of this inequity for a change!
