Butland 7, not much to do, but handled everything that came. Edwards 8, really starting to convince me now! Shawcross 8, not much to complain about here. Batth 8, same as Shawcross. Indi 7, very solid defensively, but as a fullback he should contribute more going forward. Allen 8,5, thought he was everywhere! Etebo 8,5, same as Allen, Ince 7, always involved when we create something. Bojan 7, better than in a long time. McClean 4, runs a lot, but that's it. Awful decision making at times! Afobe 5, doesn't look like the answer up front.
Verlinden 6, positive on the ball without being as good as last time. Diouf 5, worked hard, but no end product.

Harsh on Bojan, he’s worth at least an 8 I’d have thought?

Butland 7 Edwards 8 Shawcross 7 Batth 7 Indi 7 Allen 8 Etebo 8 Ince 6 Bojan 8 McClean 5 Afobe 7
Thought Afobe was okay today, especially first half - and I haven't been his biggest fan.
Was disappointed in Ince again overall. Thought that little axis of Bojan, Etebo and Allen were all excellent

Won't rate them all, but Allen and Etebo were very good. Etebo stood out quality wise, and McClean was the opposite.
We desperately need pace. Other teams break with 4 or 5, we break with 1 or 2.

Butland - 7: Nowt to do, but managed his box terrifically today. Edwards - 7: Hit and miss going forward, but the effort is there. Baath - 8: Outstanding , handled everything with so much composure. Shawcross - 8: Equally as good as Baath. Despite some bad touches. Martins Indi - 7: Quiet game, but didn’t put a foot wrong. Allen - 8: As said before, looks a tonne better when screening. Etebo - 9: The fulcrum of the side, does everythin right. A must keep. Bojan: -8: A controlled display, full of attacking intent. Great to see. McClean - 4: Sigh, should have had the terrible Iorfa on toast. Ince - 6: Looks reactive rather than proactive. Should have done more Afobe - 6: Threw himself around a bit more today, but little end product.

Butland 7 - commanding when needed. Kind of 7/7 really! Edwards 9 - ambitious and impactful. Love how this guy is coming on Shawcross 7 - Tad clumsy with the second half hack on the right of the box. But generally good. Batth 9 - played out well. Solidity personified. Rapidly become my favourite player. Looks PL standard to me. Indi 7 - not a LB, so looks awkward with anything elaborate. Did well overall though, good decision making when needed. Allen 9 - MOM- energetic, purposeful, skillful, neat and tidy, good awareness. Excellent game - only lacking a killer contribution at some pt. Etebo 8, Similar to Allen. Genuine class with his control, awareness, etc. V good. Ince 5 - not mobile enough, one nice piece in the second half, but didn't show for midfield. Bojan 7 - showed for the ball, played with heart, good runs, bad miss though and some good passing, some stray passing. He was net positive overall though. McClean 3 - not sure why he gets 3, but he was totally ineffectual and at times borderline incompetent. Sorry, "James Insane" offered nothing today. Afobe 5 - Not proactive enough when it wasn't falling for him. Needed to create space and make things happen, but didn't.
Verlinden 6 - Looked quite sharp and keen, won a couple of corners and attracted men to win space, but didn't quite make it happen Diouf 5 - Bit like Verlinden, except I guess, he never looked like making anything happen
Worrying, if I was a mid/lower PL team - would be after Etobo come next season - an asset for anyone lower than Leicester i'd say!

Afobe looked like a bang average championship striker today which is admitedly a step up on some of his performances but it’s still a million miles from the multi million pound goal guarantee we were supposed to have signed. The rest all did ok apart from Etobe and Allen who were outstanding and would grace any number of PL starting elevens.

A decent 90 minute and individual performance all round, bar, IMHO Ince who showed “glimpse’s.
We’ve still got to get to a point where we understand Afobe’s game. Is it us that are failing him, or is he failing us, that’s the conundrum for me presently. Etobe and Allen (remember that headless chicken) were equally immense in midfield.

Some thoughts about players: Edwards is developing very well. Shawcross is playing better than he has for at least two years. I hope we can keep Etebo. Don't shout about him too loudly outside Stoke on Trent. Bojan has just had his best game for years.
Nathan Jones seems to be just as keen to develop and improve players as to buy new ones.

For once I thought the sponsors got MOM right - Etebo snuffed out danger, used his pace to stop players breaking and drove forward with the ball. He showed impressive self control compared to Reading. Special mention to Bojan who was always available, retained possession under pressure and even closed players down. His quality on the ball was head and shoulders above anybody else and he lasted all match.

Etebo and Edwards are two huge positives to the Jones era so far. If any of you ever catch yourself thinking Rowett might have had a clue after all remind yourself that he picked Fletcher and Martina ahead of them at times this season.

I’m sitting on a train going to Wembley reading The Football League Paper and have just had to polish my specs having read their ratings . Allen 6, Etebo 6, Bojan 6, Afobe 7, McLean 7, Ince 8. They remained the same even after the polishing ! Do these guys just sit in the pub and make it up ? 🙄

Butland 7- good save after Ince failed to hold the ball 20 yards outside our area. Edwards 8 - played well; if he could find a yard more of pace( Thought he was lucky with the Sheffield We’d disallowed goal, letting their player get past him), he will have a great career; probably not with us. Shawcross 7 -solid, no frills. Ba’ath 6.5- defended well, shocking header at the end. BMI 6.5-doing a job, but passing of the ball is often inaccurate and slow to the wide man ( McLean or Verlinden) Allen 8- played well. Etebo 9- won the ball, drove forward -needs a little more composure with his final ball and then he’ll be our next cash cow. Bojan 8- a player who can control a ball ( hallelujah and pass to another Stoke player. Should have scored. Ince 5.5- involved in Stoke’s best chance ( pass to Bojan) and Wednesday ‘s only chance, holding the ball with the strength of a wet tea bag and being dispossessed allowing them through for Butland ‘s save. Afobe 6- won a header! McLean - 5.5 the touch and vision of Blind Pugh today.
Diouf- 5 , just does not look like a football player. Verlinden- twice as many crosses as either winger despite playing 70 minutes less.
In a nutshell the guaranteed goals that Ince and Afobe were supposed to bring has been exposed for the half hearted poor footballers that they both are. £25m of cack. Overall the intent and performance was an improvement on the last couple of weeks.
