A 'where were you when...' moment when you learned of his leaving.
I was driving past the Yew Tree Pub on the A217.

A 'where were you when...' moment when you learned of his leaving. I was driving past the Yew Tree Pub on the A217. Remember the news breaking on the radio on the way to work. A449 Penkridge on way to a course at Rodbaston College. Proper ruined my day it did!

I really enjoyed our trip to Burnley when we stuck it to him You could just tell it was getting to him by way he stared into the away end & nervously smirked as he walked out across in front of us to the dugouts. I might be imagining it to but did he cup his ears at one point aswell?!

A449 Penkridge on way to a course at Rodbaston College. Proper ruined my day it did! I got a text off a mate as soon as I got up, a few months earlier we'd had a long chat with him in Austria pre-season, genuinely seemed a decent down to earth bloke at the time, he did mention that things at the club weren't quite as he'd been promised before taking the job. Went into work in Pompey that day and got no end of grief off the Pompey fans about it

Whenever the media talk of certain fans giving their ex-player/manager or someone they don't like a harsh time, I always think "this is nothing compared to Cotterill at Burnley"
That was RELENTLESS

Maybe there are two sides to every story but that wouldn't suit the established viewpoint. Always amazes me when judgements and opinions are based on knowing few, if any, of the circumstances surrounding the issue.
He possibly has many of the character faults as many folk describe here but fans' opinions are not based on evidence of these faults, just the gut, mob reaction to someone perceived as having 'disrespected' the club.
War was declared on him and, as has been often said, 'truth is the first victim of warfare'.

He gave the players the week off without any given reason when in reality he was sorting his move out, he even took his club car without returning it. And for what? To be number two. Nigel Johnson never has a bad word to say about any Stoke manager... except one. Speaks volumes. There's no mis-conception here he massively did respected everyone in the manner of his leaving.

If he'd got a manager job in the Premier League we wouldn't have liked it but it would have been more understandable. Instead he went to be assistant at a sinking ship under the tutelage of a has been.
