If a manager puts a good structure in place, gets good staff, trains them well and promotes good practice, then a business will thrive, even after that manager has moved on It's what happens in businesses all over...so why not footie? I hope that NJ is doing with Stoke what he clearly did with Luton. If that is the case, the future is bright...but hopefully NOT Orange

Big job in the Summer as they will lose players and recruitment be a huge factor. Not sure why all the fuss re Luton.

In other words he doesn't just motivate players he builds up the whole club. It takes longer but the effects last longer as well.

We continued to improve after TP had left.
Derby continued to improve after Cloughie left.
It is the ultimate test for any leader that your team continues to improve for a short while after you have gone.
It does suggest that NJ is a cracking manager.

Mick Harford may not have changed much at Luton, but his mere presence is a big factor in keeping their run going. He is a man you just don't want to be on the wrong side with.
He was one of the most respected/feared forwards in his playing days. I remember reading that when he joined Wimbledon the players there decided to dispense with their usual crazy gang initiation games for fear of what he would do to them in return.
He was never a great player, although he did win a couple of caps, never played for the top teams, though Fergie regretted never signing him, but he was a monster of a player to be up against, and if some of that natural authority of his is still intact, I wouldn't be surprised to see Luton win yet another promotion to the PL in a couple of seasons.

Didn't the same happen to us in a way. Pulis laid the foundation with a very solid and hard working team, then Hughes came in and added some flavour and we shone for a period. Then the hard working solid foundation was ripped apart piece by piece and we ended up where we are now.

I think you're right, but I seem to vaguely remember that a newspaper article built up the story of a potential clash between him and Big Sam, when their opposing teams met. Harford was stretchered off after a brief skirmish with Allardyce, I suppose the moral is never call him Fat Sam to his face.

I honestly think our "structure" is where we fail, and will continue to fail. It's a complete shambles, but that's really not news to anyone.
The team will always be limited by it, that's a sad feeling as nothing will change except the manager time and time again
