Article in yesterday's Metro paper stating the club investigating abuse of James McClean, shouting of "where's your ***king poppy?" Firstly its a bit daft as not the time of year for poppies on shirts. No point trying to get the player to wear one now but what i don't understand is how its classed as abuse to ask him a question in a song? Other than the mention of the naughty F word!

Suspect it ran rather deeper than just 'where's your f**king poppy' and that'll be what's being investigated. They were abusing him, numerous reports of them yelling obscenities at him, dropping c-bombs in his general direction etc. All footballers have to deal with that of course, but it could hardly be termed as anything other than abuse.

There really are some brain dead thick heads around, he's invited to tolerate this shit every week.
If you want to wear a poppy, wear one , if you don't then piss off and leave the rest of us alone, no one wants you snarling in their face like some salivating moron.

If you don't class that as "abuse" I don't know what is.
I wouldn't fancy angry mobs snarling at me at work for my beliefs, wouldn't be tolerated.

As I said last week people seem to justify abuse and bullying of footballers by saying it was just a chant, everyone was doing it, he earns enough to put up with it, what do you expect from a football crowd etc. Not true it is hurtful to any individual.

So because he’s well paid he should just accept it even though he’s human just like the rest of us? Wow

No you've misread my post - I'm saying that is how people justify abuse of footballers and it is totally wrong to say they earn enough to put up with abusive chants and bullying. They are still human whatever they earn.

It wasn't a song - they were just screaming it at him amongst other sectarian abuse no doubt.

No fuss was made when we used to sing to their player "Stanley, Stanley where's yer wife?" and that must have been upsetting!

Just after he risked taking us down to 9 men in the first half he chose to have verbal back and forth with the QPR fans. Took place right in front of me.
I’m sure some of the abuse he receives is horrific but he needs to learn to control himself on the pitch and off it. Can’t remember the last bloke we’ve had who gets so unnecessarily wound up over everything. Complete thug.

So if you personally were constantly being abused week after week ( and that’s just in the stadiums ) you’d just turn the other cheek?

Not sure how I'd react to being constantly on the receiving end of hateful sectarian abuse to be honest, don't think those of us who haven't are really qualified to tell him what's necessary and what isn't.

I like James McClean. We wouldn't go far wrong if all our players displayed the heart and desire he does.

There’s a very thin line here to what is sectarian abuse and what isn’t . I would class what the QPR fans who were shouting at James McLean as sectarian abuse and it as no place in any society. They were bang out of order. I think what a lot of people are missing is that there are a lot of supporters who dislike McLean and want him away from Stoke not because he is Irish or Catholic or from Derry or doesn’t wear the poppy but because it as been proven on several occasions that he is a supporter off a terrorist organisation named the IRA . Fact. He publicly brings politics in sport and disrespects our Remembrance day our Queen and County, and then very cleverly he plays the race card. It doesn’t matter what religion country or race he his to some people he is offensive and a very nasty man and we have the freedom and right to dislike him and not be called sectarian just a much as he as the freedom of right to not wear the poppy and not be abused for that.

I’m out I’m not sure you’ve heard this one before, but here it goes. Aren’t QPR one of those Irish immigrant teams, hence the hooped shirts. Bit ironic that they should be bemoaning him not wearing the poppy...
