I still feel a bit peeved that the GB statue is totally understated compared to the magnificent Matthews one. Gordon should have had at least two statues larger than it is and depicting at least a save of some sort. Matthews statue would be fitting to grace any art gallery or British museum, but the GB statue might not get into a garden centre as an ornament. They could remove some of the bushes and weeds along that path and reposition Bankseys statue with another showing him doing his goal saving dives that he was famous for, on a raised platform for people to see better.

I think what might be more achievable would be for the south stand to be renamed the Gordon Banks stand & have pictures, murals e.t.c plastered all around that stand of Banks including some in his England pomp.

The sculptor that created the GB statue was on the wireless this morning talking about a statue of him making that save, he was on about having it at Wembley tho.

Thanks BCP and estokie86 I did not realise that, I never studied the issue. It appears to be a fundamental design or specification issue. I wonder who sanctioned it in the first place? Cartwright. It was definitely Cartwright.

I've said on a different thread, there should be a statue of every one of the World cup winning team around the perimeter of Wembley, the spiritual home of English football and the scene of our greatest triumph. Imagine legions of fans filtering past the statues of footballing demigods as you approach the stadium,English football's Mount Olympus. A line or two from the immortal commentary on the plinths: "Alan Ball running himself daft...." and so on. Build the myth. Inspire generations of nogger loving kids to greatness.

The current statue should be the one at Wembley, he didn't play for us in 66, however, the Pele save is another issue and should be on a par with the statue of Stan at the home of SCFC.
