He bought me a pint in The Smithy in Fenton about 20 years ago after seeing that I was struggling to catch the barmaid's attention amongst a throng of Stone Island-clad associates of his.
Little did he know that I was 15 at the time.
Good luck Mickey lad.

I remember the game v Brighton where his white sock was red with blood. What a player. I don't know if it was the same game but the bench were asking him to come off but no way was that happening! Saw him in a Paddock a couple of times! Good luck Mickey!

Bracewell and McIllroy in the centre of midfield were a good pairing!!! It was criminal how Barker ripped it all apart the following season!!! That side needed a striker and a replacement for Dave Watson. Instead Barker committed football suicide. Set the club back for twenty years. Absolutely bang on Lord!!!

I remember the game v Brighton where his white sock was red with blood. What a player. I was up in the Boothen Stand for that match. He'd been running around with one white sock and one red sock for quite some time, then I remember him looking down at his leg and it was almost as if he'd only just noticed the blood. At that point he started limping. π

Wrexham fan here. First of all loss of Gordon Banks today great shame and a stalwart and great servant for your club. RIP A lot of you may or may not be aware that Mickey Thomas a former player of yours and ours (twice) was diagnosed with stomach cancer in January 2019, Mickey starts chemo and radiotherapy treatment on 11th February (yesterday) followed by an operation to remove the tumour and then another course of chemo. Unable to work while going through treatment, Mickey has no source of income, so his friends are getting together to raise money to help cover his living and travel expenses, plus some of the medical expenses related to the treatments he requires β including having all of his teeth replaced. He shouldnβt be worrying about money during this tough time we want his focus to be on beating this awful disease and getting back with us all as soon as possible. A crowdfunding page has been set up with this in mind www.gofundme.com/help-mickey-t-fight-cancerJust wanted to raise awareness in case some wished to contribute. PS Mickey no longer has the machine to make his own tenners!

Volley top corner about 30 yards v Liverpool at the Vic. I was in the Boothen end right behind the flight of the ball. Whenever anyone mentions that goal, I just think "Woooosh!" Mickey's in my all time top three Stoke players. As my dad used to say, "Mickey Thomas covered every blade of grass." He'd say it practically every game while Mickey was at Stoke. I remember Grobelaar throwing his cap at the ball as it sailed past.

So sorry to hear of mickey's illness. He's a determined fellow and Stoke legend. Wish him all the best. It's about time the Professional Footballers Association started to support their ex-players. From previous press reports It appears Gordon Taylor made enough money as its figurehead.

In honour of the great man and former Shamrock regular! Brilliant sheik, our politics aside we are all Stokies and what a bloody strike. I wasn't there but I'm sure my old man enjoyed that one ππ

Met him a few times, bit of a rogue but likeable. The first thing Macari did I remember was get rid of him I think. Must have been some bad blood there. Got stabbed in the arse with a screwdriver whilst servicing a lady I remember π

One of my favourite ever Stoke players. I was right behind the goal when he scored the screamer v Liverpool: also remember a game where his white sock was red with blood. Think it may have been Brighton. Great news heβs on the mend,.
