Nearly every club he played for (and was extremely popular with) is very very wealthy. You would hope that it would be within their collective remit to sort something regarding his treatment. I thought he was bloody marvellous to watch - loved the spirit he showed.

Fantastic character, he's broken all the rules but can't help but love him. One Micky Thomas tomorrow would be great.
All the best Micky we'll be rooting for you mate.

Volley top corner about 30 yards v Liverpool at the Vic. I was in the Boothen end right behind the flight of the ball. Whenever anyone mentions that goal, I just think "Woooosh!" Mickey's in my all time top three Stoke players. As my dad used to say, "Mickey Thomas covered every blade of grass." He'd say it practically every game while Mickey was at Stoke.

Mickey was magnificent for Stoke City, get well soon!
This is probably not the moment or the place to make the point but 'Manchester United and Wales star'. He played 51 games for Wales, 90 matches for Manchester United and 101 games for Stoke City. I know why they do it but still.
Anyway what he was most of all was a Wrexham player for whom he played 230 matches.

"Thomas Must Stay" & "Shamrock Stokies" spray painted in black at The Vic before he left... Such was the impression on fans Mickey made! One of my favourite players too

Very good player for us back in the 80's. He is and always will be one of my favourite players from that era. Let us all hope that Mickey gets well soon and fights this awful disease the same way as he played for us, with guts and pride. Get well soon Mickey Thimas.

While all cancers are awful, stomach cancer is one of the worst due to the fact that it tends to be diagnosed at a late stage.
I'm hopeful that he will come through this, not old enough to have seen him play but know of him through my Dad.

A strange coincidence, but two of my favourite, and most iconic imho, pieces of commentary reference magic; Alan Parry's? "this man's magic..." concerning one of Steino's goals vs the shit and Tony Gubba's "the magic little man.." to describe Thomas' fulminating equaliser against Arsenal in the FA Cup,and they both were sustainedly magic for us,Thomas in two spells. Get well soon Mickey.

A flawed genius.
No other player comes close to bringing the joy he brought during the Alan Ball era.
Got to know Mickey in his bald head years when he was shagging the receptionist at our work (he was on the legends show on Century FM at the time).
Top bloke. Spent too much time in casinos for my liking but a top bloke. And the receptionist was fucking fit too!
Top shaggin’ Mick, no g!

Hope Mickey has as much fight and skill to win this battle as he did on the pitch. A great player to watch in the eighties.
On a side note when i was learning to drive I had a lesson driving in Mold (North Wales), mickey stepped out in front of the car and I did my first on the spot emergency stop. Then two weeks later when on another lesson my instructor asked if I would still do the emergency stop if mickey stepped out as he had just signed for Chelsea, i gave him a rye smile.

Brilliant midfield, mate. One of my favourite Stoke sides was from that season. Loved Sammy. Bracewell and McIllroy in the centre of midfield were a good pairing!!! It was criminal how Barker ripped it all apart the following season!!! That side needed a striker and a replacement for Dave Watson. Instead Barker committed football suicide. Set the club back for twenty years.
