I was there, Leeds took the lead from a quickly taken free kick by Bremner when the Stoke players were still trying to get in position. I don't think that Farmer was even looking at the ball. All hell was let loose when it was given and soon after Alan Clarke scored again and Leeds were two up. Stoke pulled one back when Hudson knocked a short free kick to Pejic just outside the penalty box. Pejic blasted in from about 25 yds. Shortly before half time Jimmy Robertson went down the left and checked back, crossed and Alan Hudson dragged it from behind him and score the equaliser. Dennis Smith headed the winner in the second half. It is always difficult to compare because most things were different. The equipment ball, boots etc The state of the ground which was quite heavy. I just think that the 1974 side were a proper Stoke team and better than the current players. There is a video on U Tube somewhere.

I was there at the 74 game. Leeds were all conquering at the time and it was the old first division. I was a kid but the game is one of my best ever memories of being at a football match. I was literally swept off my feet and ended up several yards from where I was originally standing when the winner went in. We were amazing that day, and there is no comparison to the current team, division, or level of importance. I still love my club but as good as today’s result was, it’s significance is just not the same. This season has been utter dog shit, but hopefully we have turned a corner with Nathan Jones. He needs time , but I have a really good feeling that at last we have the right man to drive us forward. Spot on.

No comparison whatsoever. Today will be forgotten by this time next year. Only by you. What year is it? Matron...., matron??

Yesterdays result pales aginst the 74 win against the top side in England with all the aggro and arrogance they brought with them. Being there was special trust me, Yesterday was really a division 2 match between two has been clubs fighting to get back into the limelight, and leeds have been trying for quite some time and yet we thought we could do it in the first season.

Was only 4 in 74 but seen it many times on video but you can't recreate an atmosphere on tv.
the 7-2 in 86/87 season will live long in my memory!

Unfortunately I could not get to the match in 74, but I do remember it was the second most proud moment as a Stoke fan when I heard the result. I suspected we might end their record run as we had drawn at Elland Road. The proudest moment of course was beating Chelsea at Wembley. Regrettably I had to stifle my joy after the match travelling on the underground with loads of Chelsea fans. How proud we were then to have a team in the top 5, which included local lads.

As welcome as Saturday's win was it bears little comparison to the win in '74. Equally so, as good as Leeds are this season the current side bears no comparison to the Leeds side in '74.
Leaving aside the justified reputation as a vile, nasty, capable of resorting to every snide trick in the book side, underneath they were a really good side made up of top, top players. The likes of Giles, Madeley, Reaney, Bremner, Clarke, Jones and the best of the lot, Gray were as good as anything in English football at the time.
They were unbeaten when they came to Stoke that day. They were the side everyone wanted to beat, every side that had played them until that day had failed.
We gave them a 2 goal start and came back to win 3-2.
My memories of that day in '74 will live with me to my last breath.
Enough said.

The 74 game I was sat in the main stand with my brother who posts here a lot more than me. Think we both had a season ticket that year - he has had one every year since too! Although Saturdays win was a good one and a welcome relief from the disappointments of recent times it comes nowhere near the magnitude of 74. Leeds who had a great side in those days and went on to win it but we finished higher than them in 75 only 4 points short of winning the league. Older ones will also remember too when we beat Leeds 3-2 at home in 68 with a Peter Dobing hat trick. The winning goal was at the Boothen end from an acute angle. Happy days!

Missed the 74 game due to my cousin getting married the same day never forgiven him but today we there together but never forgiven him ! That type of behaviour is still quite common today and needs to be stamped out. I would like to see Parliament pass "The Matrimonial Practices (Football Season) Act" which would simply make it illegal to get married in the football season. But that would mean babies being born in Feb/March which would also mean missed matches. I guess you'd have to add an amendment, Baby Making Activities Act (BMMA) only allowed from 1 October to 30 November!

The days when such activities only took place in matrimony are of course long past, but you make a good point - we don't really want babies being born in the season so I support your amendment regardless of the marital status of the parents Do you remember that tannoy call at the Brit some years ago when a guy was told to go home immediately as his wife had gone into labour ! I think the game was in a very tense state, and I wondered whether he waited until the final whistle. Not as bad though as the call at Old Trafford many years ago when a guy was told to go home because he had forgotten to leave his wife any money to go shopping Produced a right larf in the crowd.

Leeds were seemingly unbeatable in 74, a fantastic well drilled team who had gone 30 games unbeaten and then ......we went and beat them!
We played them in February 23rd and they had not lost in the League since April 1973!
Unforgettable experience.....amd to do it from 2-0 down too!!!!
No comparison I'm afraid.

People tend to forget that we were also a difficult team to beat that season. We only lost two games in the league from just before Christmas until the end of the season and finished 5th. We should have won the league the following season.
