And it should never have been in doubt. 3-5-2 is where it's at, and our new manager had the guts to try it.

Nah, think it was just for one game. Would rather we nailed the diamond.

Are we going to need five defenders against Millwall, Bolton etc though? Would rather we had a 10 to feed the strikers. We were just setting up to play the league leaders today and it worked brilliantly.

It works for today's game, but not a chance do we go that defensive every game. I have a feeling he's done it to catch Bielsa out too.

Nah, think it was just for one game. Would rather we nailed the diamond. Nah, leaves us too exposed in the middle. I'm happy with this, think it's ideal until we get some defenders in.

Bauer keeping himself fit and playing like a good wing back has made a big difference.

I've been saying for months that this squad has a Hughes 3 at the back hangover, but with actual wing backs in it, unlike under Hughes.
Thank god someone has noticed

I understand, I thought he went for 3 CBs due to lack of trust in them. If we get CBs in this window then I presume we’ll be fine with a pairing at the back again.

It was more fluid than 3 - 5 - 2. Fair play to NJ!

Clucas looks much better on the left. He's not a central midfielder

Looked a hundred times better today than against Brentford in that shape. Clucas Allen and especially Ince really really struggled with the diamond. Maybe he'll revert back to it in time, but I don't think we have the current players to properly nail it.
Even with the 3 CMs we played today, we could always replace one with Ince or Bojan for more of an attacking intent. Don't know if they're fit and fighting enough for NJ though.
Etebo looked good again - I could imagine he could flourish under Jones.

That set up better suits the players we currently have on our books. I'm sure that, in time, and as we recruit new players we will make the transition to Jones' more favoured lineup.

All credit to Jones, he’s got some brass balls playing that system in a game against the league leaders. It’s not a system he’s got any track record with, but he’s quickly identified that he doesn’t (yet) have the personnel for his preferred option, and he’s made a ballsy decision to change it. Top class management, and he’s out-thought an opposition manager who’s supposedly one of the greatest minds in world football. He’s also taken a squad completely devoid of confidence and self- belief, and got them to outrun and out-fight one of the best pressing teams in the league. If that’s the impact he can make in just a couple of weeks, this could be a fucking joyride once he’s had some time to mound the club into what he really wants. Early days I know, but what a fucking impact he’s had so far.

I think it suits what we had available but I still think he’d rather go with the diamond. For that we’d need
1 or preferably 2 new CBs 1 attacking LB 1 DM
Adam was brilliant but I don’t think he looks on him as a long term solution. I can see him liking Bojan when fit at the point. Of the 11 today I think he probably sees 6 in the team he wants to build Butland Bauer Etebo Allen Campbell Afobe Until next season though I’d imagine he’ll stick with 352

We did well with it today but I don’t think we’ll be playing it long term. NJ has shown his tactical astuteness and used it today purely to counter Leeds.

We were just setting up to play the league leaders today and it worked brilliantly. Tbh with this formation when we play the lesser teams I imagine the wing backs will have more license to go forward and support the attack. And I’m sure Nathan will give them that instruction. It’s about adapting to the opposition. We’ve finally got a manager who I feel knows what he’s doing. If he gets the personnel for his favoured diamond then all is good, but if we can nail this system then it can be successful without doubt

Given how slow our CBs are I think we need all three of them back there, it worked very well today and they all played great. Fair play to NJ and our defence. Afobe was superb today too.
