Be glad when all that's done 50mph is annoying Over the last couple of years i would have been happy to get upto 50mph through the roadworks. Sadly many times sat there awaiting the grand prix starts before the next drivers speed off then bump into other cars thus causing more hold ups. Like most i have also had to divert via knutsford and other towns to get to Stoke games. Prior to roadworks it was around 90 minute journey and the average journey since have been around 2 hours plus. Great news though if that bit opens fully.

To be fair I don't mind the 50mph as long as it is that fast. Wasn't and aren't a huge fan of there being no hard shoulder but really like the logic of smart motorways changing the speed depending on how many cars there are on the road with the idea of avoiding standstills because that's what screws everything up and creates serious delays...

Be glad when all that's done 50mph is annoying Just set the cruise control to about 53mph and then sit back and smugly watch the few who overtake you trundle on towards their next speeding ticket. What's what I do anyway

What's what I do anyway Adaptive cruise control. Fucking love it and works a treat. Gutted though because until about two years ago I was living on the motorways doing at least 4-5k+ each month without it. If I'd have had it then I swear I'd not lost the will to live like I did.

It has been a nightmare throughout with almost daily RTC causing severe congestion.
I do wonder if it would have been easier, and more cost effective long term, to build a new parallel motorway, M6/2 going North and old M6 going South, with a HS railway running up the middle.!

You can make all the "smart" motorways you want, but while they are full of absolute bellend drivers there will always be traffic jams.

I could drive up and down the M6 every day for the next 40 years and I probably wouldn't save the time these roadworks have cost me.

I use the smart motorway, M! through South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, quite often. It is brilliant. Works really well. I was very sceptical before it opened, but now it has improved my quality of driving life substantially.
