If and when he goes, as soon as possible, I hope we don't pluck another has been from the management merry-go-round. The reason these managers are on it is because their ideas are out dated or the have been unsuccessful. I hope we take a leaf out of Derby's book and go with someone who is hungry and knows what it takes to be successful. I don't want the Bruce's, Allardyces, o Neil's etc let's have a whole new outlook. My personal choice would be to give Steve Bould a route into management. After working with Wenger for many years, developing youth, he must surely be worth a shot, and on top of it he is a local lad. Probably wishful thinking, I don't think there will be a vacancy this season.

Not the Steve Bould again, we had one of these threads a few days ago.
What has he ever shown that he wants to go into the main management position, he's 56 now, with his money he should be thinking about putting his slippers on.

In all the years Bould has been a coach at Arsenal their defence has been shit.
Think I'd rather have Nello as manager

The first quality an employer looks for is experience. All out of work football managers have invariably had the sack, so you are almost certainly going to be getting a journeyman. Good assistants often don't make good bosses. Although Mourinho was an assistant to Bobby Robson. Top class players rarely make outstanding manager, We all know exceptions, but they are exceptions.
Most posters derided the appointment of Woy when Palace looked certain to be relegated. There's no bigger journeyman. Right now I'd swap Rowett for the wolly with the brolley.

No journeymen OR up and coming "potentials" - some sort of decent track record, preferably abroad is a MUST

Steve Bould has spent many years as chief bibs and cones man at Arsenal. Wenger wouldn't allow Bould any input at all, can't imagine Emery cuts him much slack either.

Stuff experience and track record, let’s buck the trend and get someone with no idea and no real managerial experience ...can’t do any worse than what we’ve had so far ? Let’s face it Ronald McDonald would probably be a good shout at the moment...

Not Boulder. Managing is very different from being coach.

Not Boulder. Managing is very different from being coach. I don't know Joe, it seemed to work very successfully for Liverpool in the 60's 70's and 80's a long time ago I know and things change so what about recently Darren Moore? Even closer to home at Stoke it's arguable that our last decent game we played was last year against Man U with Eddie as caretaker.

No, the reason those managers are on a merry go round is that every once in a while they actually did their job successfully. Not every time obviously, but one time out of every five or ten. Ranieri was just another guy on the merry go round that was underwhelmingly picked up by Leicester, but suddenly everything he did was perfect.

Is there any reason whatsoever to suggest Bould would make a manager. If he wasn’t an ex player would he even be in the conversation?

Steve Bruce has delayed becoming Sheffield Wednesday manager because he needs knee surgery and time to recover or is that the real reason ?

Is there any reason whatsoever to suggest Bould would make a manager. If he wasn’t an ex player would he even be in the conversation? He was a successful youth team manager and as assistant he was learning from whom everyone except those in ST4 agrees was the best manager in business in the last 25 years. But of course that might just make him a bad match with Stokies.

Wenger was a great manager for a long time, I think his last decade or so there removes any sort of claim to being the best. As an assistant, he's been part of their ongoing failure there. He may well be a good fit but it would be one hell of a gamble with not much behind it.

A straight answer is no, not at all, for some reason he's never put himself in the frame. But recently we have witnessed the likes of Darren Moore (voted Prem league manager of month in April I believe), Frank Lampard and Steve Gerrard all managing teams with a certain amount of success for the first time but we seem shit scared to give it a crack and all we do is side step from one old fossil to the next. I'm not sure Steve Bould can successfully make the leap from Assistant to No.1 but right now the club needs desperately starting from scratch and maybe some fresh ideas installing at least pitch side. At this present time Bouldy is the only name who fits right now in that category IMO.

I'd be bang up for someone young and progressive, but I'd ideally like them to have at least a modicum of experience. Rolling the dice on a Stendel or giving someone like Neil a go would be exciting if not a bit terrifying. Maybe that's something you do during a summer rather than partway through a season though. Of the dinosaur crew I think Moyes is as good as it's realistically going to get.

I guess we can expect better football for the eye with Moyes, but when it comes to results I think Big Sam is the safest man to bring in. He is very good at creating teams hard to beat, and he will win most games in this division with Stoke if he takes the job. I just hope we don't end up as the Everton fans who hated him despite of the job he was doing. Transformed them from a relegation candidate to a mid table team, but that was obviously not enough for most of their supporters. To me that would be a dream come true again actually.

They really weren't a relegation candidate, they were 13th when he took over. All he proved there was that he really isn't cut out to manage anything beyond a bottom half scrapper. As you say, that would more than do for us at the moment, so if he was prepared to come we'd just have to hold our noses and deal with the devil. It took a king's ransom to get him to take the Everton job though, I don't know why he'd come here when he can just count his money and enjoy his retirement.

I'm terrible at choosing managers,I thought Joe Jordan,Kamara and Rowett were all good choices. So on that basis I'm going for Dowie 😊

If I remember this correctly Everton were dropping like a stone after their former central defender took charge, Sam steadied the ship and won enough games to steer them well clear of a relegation battle. Anyway I think he will be the safest choice for us. Why would he want to take on a new club, just because football is in his blood and you can't get that rush of blood in the veins anywhere else.

Many of the most successful managers in the Premier League (look at the top 6) and some in the Championship are foreign. The available English so called "experienced managers" would not improve us in my opinion. As has been posted elsewhere the problems we are experiencing may lie elsewhere but I think we should consider looking for an up and coming manager possibly from Germany or Portugal where coaching methods seem to be more advanced than in the U.K.
