4*
just depressing, despite winning.
woods was incredible when he joined, now he's been 'stoke trained' and its lost all focus.
still wondering about clucas, not sure what he brings to the table.
the only interesting bit was Shawcross steaming through the middle in the second half and then not knowing what to do when he passed everyone.

Playing 4141 with a totally isolated striker at home with the most expensive squad in the division is a disgrace.
This manager is holding us back.

Stoke's team for this season should have looked a bit like this if we;d been serious about challenging for automatic promotion - addressing (a) need for youth/fitness at CB, (b) securing at least 3-4 players who could score and/or create 10+ goals (recognising we need to win games, including when not dominating or facing parked buses), (c) a set piece taker (recognising this adds 10+ goals a season). It would have necessitated moves for loan players, who we couldn't otherwise afford but make a difference, and strategic investments in players with good track records of being productive or reliable and experienced winners at this level. Spending this much would have meant also been being pragmatic and not overspending on positions that were not going to dictate the outcome (like fullbacks) at the end of the season, or using precious loan spots up for these types.
GK Butland RB. Bauer + Edwards. CB BMI + Egan/ Klose CB: Shawcross/ Carters-Vickers (loan) LB Pieters + BMI RMF: Ince/ Callum Robinson/ CMF: Allen + Cameron CMF: Etobo + Sorrenson LMF: Wilson (loan)/Barnes (loan)/Snodgrass (loan) AM/2ndS: Adams S: Gayle/Grabban/Vydra
"/" denotes "or" rather than "and". Woods would have still been nice, though personal prefernce was Luongo at QPR. Cuco would have been useful as back up - or just keep Muni. No need for Maclean or Clucas. Would have preferred Grabban + Adams, or Vokes + Adams etc, to 12m on Afobe - simply because you'd get more goals per £ and have options when one lost form or during different game scenarios.

he's playing scared football scared for his own job, he's on a good number at stoke and he knows it but he has peter coates words ringing in his ears not making the top 6 is failure, hence the team is playing with no flair or freedom keeping it tight at the back one up front and trying to nick results to scrape into the top 6 and keep his job.

5* He’s says teams defend deep against us but seems incapable of formulating a game plan to counter this. That’s his job. Given the bore fest and how quiet it was first 45, I’m surprised I didn’t catch up on some badly needed sleep To be fair, he did formulate a plan, one where we beat the team we were playing
