I was always quite happy to see Ireland in the starting XI, comfortable on the ball and rarely gave it away. He saw his next pass before he received it and even though it was a simple 10-20 yard pass it found the target and he invariably moved to receive the second pass. I'm not so sure he was as committed as he could have been but I do think he was a more than decent footballer and we've seen way worse at Stoke.

I'm almost certain I saw Steven Ireland here in Icmeler last night with his missus (obviously).....
Walked straight passed him, I'm 99% sure it was him, there's just that 1% that always thinks "supposing it's not him, and just someone who looks just like him???"
If I knew for sure, I'd have at least acknowledged him, cuz I thought he was okay for us, nice footballer!!!

Criminally under used when he was here. He really was. I suggested we resign him in the summer. I refuse to believe he could offer nothing in that diamond formation, even now

I refuse to believe he could offer nothing in that diamond formation, even now Who does he play for now? How many games has he played since he left us? The answers to the above would tend to suggest that he would be no improvement on the current squad. It doesn't matter how talented a footballer is, eventually they all reach their sell by date, though as we have seen from the likes of Owen and Gudjohnsen they don't seem to realise for a year or two.

Kin 'ell, I forgot we had Gudjohnsen!!! If it wasn't for Owen being a complete tit as a pundit (therefore, getting attention here & there), I'd have forgotten about him too!!!

Horses for courses isn't it, he is taylor made for the tip of a diamond and only 32. When we were shit in the prem and he played he always showed pieces of quality even after not playing for ages

I agree. Always found those little spaces that nobody else could.
Injuries ruined him, he couldโve been a great.

As a proud Irishman, personally I think he's a cunt, telling lies about his grandfather dying to get out of Irish international duty, sums up precisely what type of despicable cunt he really is and a total fucking waste of space.๐ฎ๐ช๐ฎ๐ช๐ฎ๐ช๐ฎ๐ช

I liked the directness about Ireland. Adam was the same, they are players who can make an impact in games when nothing much is happening.
Jonjo Shelves should be a similar type of player but sometimes he seems to play too deep to have the same impact in matches.

Do you consider him to be a cunt also?
At least S.Ireland had mental health issues he could point to as an excuse, whereas Keane is just, well, mental.

Met him twice and the second time had a few beers with him so got a good chance to chat. Nothing despicably cuntish in the slightest about him, down to earth, friendly, good laugh. Shouldnโt always judge someone for mistakes they have made, everyone makes them, doesnโt necessarily give you the whole picture of their character.

Didn't;t Charlie Adam put his foot through Ireland's leg in training? Like, literally through his leg? This was after that on the field of play injury where his calf was almost hanging off.
Injuries aside, oh god, his face hair was so bad. And that pink Range Rover. Legend.

For whatever reason, we never saw the best of him.
He was a seriously good player on his day.
But yes, also had seriously questionable taste in Range Rivers and decor I seem to remember.
Edit: "Rovers"
Rivers? Bloody spell check

One of Irelands best matches in a Stoke shirt was the home win v Chelsea, The Assaidi last minute winner game. Aswell as knocking a goal in himself during the game Ireland was integral in setting the stunning Assaidi goal up & had a great game running the midfield..
