About to be shown the door by Bolton. Only 32 shame about the injuries. Wonder if he’ll pack it in?

Still think he was a good player. Lambert should have put his pride to one side and used him. He might have saved his skin.

So a guy who 6 months later has just been let go by struggling Bolton in the Championship should have got more games in the Premier League 6 months earlier and might have saved our season? We made many mistakes last season, not playing Ireland wasn't one of them. He was a good player and was decent for us when he first signed for us. That was a few years ago now and last season he wasn't good enough any more. And at Bolton he's proven that he wouldn't have been good enough for us this season either even at a lower level.

Yeh but he ran the show vs Man U, if you put aside missing two sitters anyway, he's a super star that stoke must have ruined as always.

His cameo at White Hart Lane in the 2 goal comeback was what he could be, unfortunately injuries took their toll.
If his ego wasn’t what it was I’m sure we’d all feel a tad more sorry for him.

Correct, but Lambert’s a nice guy, so it doesn’t matter 🙄 I said a similar thing on the other Steven Ireland thread on page 2. I hope someone creates a third one, so I can post again

Just thought he was better and different to what he ended up playing. Bojan is a similar case under the current regime.

I like Ireland, always thought he was a better player than Adam when he was in the team.

Great vision, very intelligent footballer. Could have done so much more if his injury record and attitude were both better.

A good player on his day, but he's not been fit for about 10 years now. (not an exaggeration, the last time he played 30 games was 08-09.)

0 appearances.... Well done Stevie lad. I'm sure the Bolton fans will remember you fondly.
In all seriousness, it's a shame about Ireland. Shit loads of talent but questionable attitude and a horrific injury record. I think he'll probably knock it on the head now.

Ireland's injuries over the past number of years are well documented. However, it is extremely unfair, and wrong, to question his attitude. He was always an obsessive trainer - first in, last out -, but unfortunately, one injury followed another, as very often happens.
But on his day, he was a joy to watch. A very uncomplicated player, he could dominate play without passing the ball more than five yards, and always seemed to have both time and space. He also "ghosted" into scoring positions unnoticed. He was like a cross between Liam Brady and Martin Peters.

With all due respect that is just garbage How would a player who can’t hack it a struggling Bolton in the Championship have been able to save a Premiership club? He’s managed less than 60 games in the last 6 years A talented player but you can’t depend on a player who is so inconsistent and injury prone as Bolton have now found out.

I have widely different views on players than others on here and have never bothered to put pen to paper (keyboard to screen?) but really? Really? The man who retired from international football at, what was it 22? to be compared to Liam Brady and Martin Peters. I don’t smoke the stuff myself but you must have some powerful chronic.

Some tried to turn him into a world beater, seems to happen a lot when we're doing poorly and need a new stick, see Bojan for the same.
