It was good to see him today and I thought he had a good game.
It was also good to hear the respect that I thought our support gave him. Even the ironic chant of “Whelan is a Stokie “ when he misplaced a pass.
A little dissapointed he never acknowledged the crowd but maybe he was just being his normal proffesional self. ?

Fantastic Pro and to think, perhaps we didn't need to replace him considering our current predicament? Joselu is another.

To be fair to Glen he did give a little clap to acknowledge us.

I usually have a mini heart attack every time we defend a set piece but as soon as I saw Whelan was taking corners for Villa I felt like a remarkable sense of calm.
Great to have you back on my live stream, Whelan.

The type of character that got us into the top league and the type of character that was sadly lacking when we dropped out.

It was the same chant of Stein is a Stokie when he was playing in the League Cup against us and he missed a great chance to ensure we went through!

He was shit to be fair. As were villa in general.
I didn’t agree with the crown chanting whelan during the game at 0-0! I’d rather get behind our own players

No disrespect to the OP but I was half hoping and expecting this thread to have been started by another poster.

Whelan was excellent 1st half. Less so 2nd half but that is because he was playing 1 v 3.

Look on the villa forum they thought he was toss I'm sure the Villa forum is very accurate. Did they also say they deserved a point? I agree that in the first half he was very good. Put in a brilliant ball across our box late in that half which was begging for a touch in. Second half we were on top and he wasn't a factor.

He was average. Apart from a couple of 10 minute spells we totally dominated the midfield.....

The sale of Whelan contributed to our relegation as much as any of the other useless decisions made by Hughes.

Opposition midfields cut through us with abandon in his later years, so I don't know where you get that from. Whelan and Walters influence off the pitch was very important. It was time to let them go but we didn't replace with the right characters. Utterly avoidable relegation due to spineless players and management.

The sale of Whelan contributed to our relegation as much as any of the other useless decisions made by Hughes. We had plenty of cloggers. We had no players with quality.
