More watering down of European competition. At this point they may as well just come out with the obvious thing we all know, the 10 or so club hegemony that has been established in European football is never going to be toppled...so have this competition instead serfs.

Anything that gives me half a chance to go on the piss in European cities again, I'm all for it.

Fantastic idea. They should call it the "Everyone gets a prize League." And the bottom clubs in the group stages of the Europa and Champions League should be given automatic entry after Christmas.

i loved our time in the Europa and believe that for the stupid rule about champions league teams coming in after christmas we might have got further and maybe won it
this is further watering down of the competition that will eventually lead to a European League that has been wanted for a long time by the elite clubs.....
that said if we ever made it back into any european competition i would love it

How about introducing a 3rd European trophy for all the winners of the domestic cup in each respective country instead?
Trying to think of a catchy name for it, “The Cup Victors Cup” “The Winners of the Cup Cup” ???
Nope I’m struggling I’ll be honest.....

WOW use of the word hegemony! I doff my cap sir! Although we are again light years away from any European adventure another brief dalliance (which it was for TP) in exotic cities would be great fun.

Of all the European Competitions it was the most natural in that clubs qualified for it by winning the major knockout competition in their own country. And it was, of course, a knockout competition. So every club (large and small) in every country which entered its own national knockout competition knew that over the course of two seasons, there was, potentially, a European final as an end result - no matter how unlikely that might actually be. I suppose the problem for the money men is that, as with all knock out competitions, half of the clubs get knocked out each round. They should bring it back.

I can’t wait for the Europa League 7.
Macclesfield Town away to some Turkmenistan farmers should make for riveting viewing on a Tuesday evening.

I'm all watery eyed and old now and remember the tension that used to descend on great European nights. Misty air and cracking commentary in far away capitals, with baying swarming crowds beneath flags like sails; exotic named opponents in glistening white adidas strips. Referees from East Germany with moustaches. Bald geniuses drifting through the midfields and flicking their curved passes to the wings. Legendary muscalar forwards who'd been capped 125 times by their nation. Battles of dark arts and strategy played out like a slow ballet.
Now, its ,,,, well, outside of the odd cracker in the Champs league, its basically monotonous and pointless shite isn't it.

Big clubs don't want a straight knockout competition as there's a risk they will go out early.

But as we now appear to have 3 competitions AGAIN - I think it is a pity that one of them isn't in the knockout format of the old Cup Winners Cup.

With the Top 4 qualifying for the Champion's League - most cup winners will already have a European spot.
Maybe the runners-up could enter a 'cup winners cup'?
