No brainer.
Prem clubs won't touch him as he was sacked within a couple of months but produced comfortably the best football I've ever seen at Championship level.
Let's move on him now so he can evaluate the squad before the much needed Jan overhaul.

If the owners are still serious about this football club, this would be done by tonight.

If Derby batter us on Wednesday, Coates will think about O'Neil again.

He’s the one I wanted us to go for when Hughes went.
We’d need another complete squad overhaul if we did it though. No way do the owners sanction that.

I can’t make my mind up on Rowett, I do just think the whole thing is bizarre Let’s not forget the club has been poisonous for 2yrs and GR had to really start from the beginning I just do not get the tactics, just not in the slightest! Team selection and subs can just be jaw dropping some times! But PC kept pulis for yrs and yrs and the football was much worse than this. So I think GR will be staying put! How I wish they would get rid of scholes, I blame him for all things wrong!!!

We'll be back to the land that time forgot. he's got to be better than Rowett surely, and if he can do for us what Hodgsons done for Palace he'd be ok In truth Pugs I haven't a fooking clue what they should do, if Rowett left us I'm certain he'd be a revelation elsewhere knowing us

Martin O'Neill would be a dream appointment for PC:
He's from Northern Ireland, so he's British. He'd complete his set of appointing someone from every British nation. His methods are stuck in the 1990s. His teams play long ball football. He'd have Gabriel Agbonlahor's phone number- and he's a free agent now.

I think the fans could be sold that dreadful word a 'project' with Jokanovic, Rob. Give him two or three windows to sort out the filthy mess we've gotten ourselves into. At least we'd have a shred of enjoyment on the way with him rather than Mogadon Gary.

If Derby batter us on Wednesday, Coates will think about O'Neil again. Derby will probably batter us on Wednesday & laugh at us all the way back down the A50. But old man Coates will still stick with Rowett.

Was having the discussion yesterday about whether any of the old school Coates types are viable in the unlikely event of an itchy trigger finger.
Would like to think we've moved on from MON now, although he was very close to the job in January, so who knows? Unlikely Warnock is available any time soon. McCarthy off the market.
I was struck by the lack of obvious names that came to mind, in terms of managers with any track record who'd be a worthwhile punt.
Jokanovic would have to be the stand-out candidate at the moment by quite some distance, but he doesn't seem particularly Coates-friendly.
Who else is there?
QSF seems to have burnt his bridges totally.
Dean Smith always seemed a decent potential pick, but he's out of the running now.
I was never convinced by Bilic, but he's now earning big money in Saudi Arabia.
Monk was mentioned, but he seems maybe a bit Rowett-like?
Paul Cook? Alex Neill? Derek McInnes? Craig Shakespeare? Lee Johnson?
Not a lot to hang your hat on really, is there?
I think you'd have to have a punt on old Slav. Someone will soon.

2 promotions in 4 full seasons in the championship. Should be all over this.
Shits on Rowett in every department.

But to Coates, nah. The list is really damn depressing you posted. Because I'd have zilch of them lot at the current moment. For me it's Slav. But we won't have it in us to make a risk like that anymore. We've been treated to our once every 20 years mid season sacking with Hughes. For as much as we'd probably welcome Slav here, Coates(both) will stick by their man till at least the season's end. Whether Coates sticks to his word of 'not making the play offs would be a failure' is another matter. Generally, when you fail at the task you've been given, you suffer consequences. Won't happen with Gary methinks.

He spent over 100 million in the summer. He got sacked after 12 games with his team rock bottom of their league after conceding 31 goals.
Go get him.

Possibly too much turnover in one summer. 12 new players to be accommodated. And apparently Jokanovic had very little say over transfers (which he got increasingly angry about) with the chairman's son apparently the main man. As we're in the Championship, 2 promotions from this league in the last 4 seasons is pretty impressive by any standards

I think that's the cynical point of view when in reality JC was behind the push for QSF and GR. It seem likes he's having more and more control now. Make no mistake: if we were to go for some has-been like O'Neill it would be even worse than it is now and there is zero chance we'd be promoted this season or next.

We will dither until a month after the end of the season, then sack Rowett and replace him with the only man available, Kenny Jackett.

Less than 12 months ago we pushed out the boat to bring QSF here, so you've got to assume that the next man doesn't HAVE to be British.
