It's really getting out of hand now isn't it, hopefully without any serious injuries or fatalities on either side. The gilets jaunes really do seem intent on getting Macron out.

Still going in Clermont-Ferrand and other regions of the Auvergne as well as across France - my friends say the gilets jaunes are determined to get rid of Macron and many want Frexit. It's not reducing even after 10 weeks, although ot's obviously on a smaller scale than Paris. The local press are even providing info on where the marches will be in the area. link

The European set-up will be extremely third-rate without our boys and girls from all the Services. Hey ho! It's a pity we can't still say 'Up yours, Delors'…… it had a great ring to it.

Maybe, I agree and most probably an " incident' has occurred which we do not see in the video, but taken out of context, as it stands, Chuffed, it does not do much for police/ public relations ( if that matters in France).... particularly as these things do the rounds on social media. It didn't seem necessary to hit the girl.

We had a Yellow Vest protest of our own down here in Taunton yesterday. Everything seems to have passed by without any reports of trouble or violence and, I’m told, the 6 protesters and their dog had a nice little day out together. Somerset County GazetteThey be just repairing potholes mate....

Are you the gormless looking lad on the end ? 😉 No, since you ask. I'm one of the invisible ones hard at work paying taxes etc so that these people (and their dog) can afford to have their little assembly and protest about what a bad place and how unfair this country is.

Perhaps France is different, but these particular police do seem a bit " paramilitary". .....or gestapoesque as you say...,.I don't think that I would like to see them on the streets of the UK on a daily basis.....it seems like they are not there to protect the people and to solve crime..... rather ther purpose is to keep people obedient to the state

Maybe its only this video but police/gestapo officers appear to have their faces covered and id numbers removed - isnt that illegal? I'm pretty sure they're deliberately doing a load of brutally vile stuff which they know to be illegal because it seems as though the law doesn't apply to them, and this is no doubt because 'their leaders' have already told them in advance to take any action they deem necessary, as long as it enables them to get an upper hand and keep the protesters under the thumb. Gestapo tactics indeed. The film of the big chap with his helmet and padded uniform hitting the much smaller girl is dreadfully upsetting - it's evil, HORRENDOUS conduct and an absolute DISGRACE that it's going on in one of the world's modern and major countries rather than a third-world backwater, where I suppose we might expect State brutality to be the norm. Macron should be asked, in public, on TV, to comment - to the world's press - on this specific guy's behaviour and asked how he would feel if his wife received the same treatment. I wonder what his answers to both questions would be? He'd never be asked in public, though, whereas I'm sure any British leader in a similar situation would never be allowed to get away without answering a multitude of questions on camera. France is behaving deplorably - as ever. They just make their own rules up as they go along, and always have done. 'Beneath contempt' isn't in it.

On a different angle, does anyone know how all this unrest has affected tourism in France? Paris is a major tourist destination but you can't really expect anyone to want to go there if they'd be likely to get caught up in a riot? Anyone know?

Yep, must have done, in which case France's tourist industry will have lost €millions. Maybe the tourists have come to this side of the Channel instead? Won't THAT get right up Macron's nose??? Lovely jubbly!
