He is as nice a man as you would meet. I met him at the Tatton Flower Show. We had quite a long conversation. I knew he was a Stokie. He sends his children to the school where I taught and my mother taught at the school where his father was headmaster. Great bloke.

Oh - just found this EXCELLENT thread by accident & hadn't seen it before - I've actually been intending to open a little thread about Roger for months. I was half-watching (more listening to than watching) BBC TV Breakfast News one Saturday morning right back at the beginning of the year, and Roger was co-presenting it - I'd seen him on it many times before and had always thought what a pleasant and very personable young man he was, and what a first-class presenter, but hadn't known anything at all about him, not even his name. Then in the discussion some comment was made and he laughed and jokingly replied "Don't ask me - I'm from Stoke!"I obviously sat up and started to really pay attention at this point, thinking 'What did he just say? From STOKE? Did he say STOKE? What's he talking about?' etc….. Anyway, as soon as he mentioned his and his co-presenter's names again I Googled him instantly and it came up that he's the son of Nigel Johnson, who does the football commentary for SCFC matches on Radio Stoke. And I thought 'Well, fancy that!' And from that very moment I liked him even more. I'm sure I've only seen Roger presenting the BBC TV Breakfast News on Saturdays and/or Sundays, so it looks as though he's restricted to those days, but I just wish he could present the main prog on weekday mornings because he does such a perfect job of it and is such a pleasure to watch. I don't know the name of his regular female co-presenter, but she too is first class - worlds above that appalling Naga Munchetty who does do the midweek morning presenting, but is basically thick and a lousy presenter and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a TV studio - she drops so many embarrassing bricks and clangers all the time that I'm constantly amazed they keep her. Anyway, Roger is wonderful, and I'm so, SO proud he's a Stokie - (I think he came from Newcastle rather than Stoke itself) - he does us all proud. Go Rog!

He also presents the North West Tonight BBC local news programme at 6.30pm murph. I agree with your comments about Naga Munchetty as well - she's so very, very annoying and really, really irritating ! Lousy presenter.

North West Tonight: I've never even heard of that prog, Dees, so I think we must be on different BBC TV regions / signals? I think you must get the Manchester one? Our tea-time BBC schedule is 6.00pm National News / 6.30pm Local/Regional News (ie. West Midlands News, from Birmingham Studios) / 7.00pm The One Show, which I've never watched, and which I think is a studio chat-show (???) and I think Adrian Chiles is, or was, one of its presenters. So I've unfortunately never had the pleasure of watching Roger on North West Tonight.
