The Austin Aztex U23s join 32 other teams from across the United States in the first round of the tournament. By the end, eight teams from each of five leagues (MLS, USL-1, USL-2, PDL and USASA) will battle for the honor of winning a tournament that dates back nearly a hundred years. Aztex FC are thrilled to announce that the opponent for the Aztex U23s in the first round will be the USL-1’s Atlanta Silverbacks, and that the match will be played in the Aztex’s own Dragon Stadium in Round Rock at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, June 10th. The Silverbacks were the runner-up in last season’s USL-1 race, falling 4-0 in the final to the Seattle Sounders. They currently sit in 7th place this season, their 2-3-2 record earning them 8 points in 7 games played. The full list of first-round games is available on USSoccer.com. In a stroke of good luck, Stoke City F.C. manager Tony Pulis plans to be in Austin the week of the game. The visit from the boss of Austin’s English partner team will allow him to see an important match during his time in Texas. Stoke City was promoted from the second-highest division of English football to the highest division, the Premiership, earlier this month. Upon his return to England, Pulis will continue preparations for next season, when his team will be pitted against such world soccer powerhouses as Champions Cup finalists Manchester United and Chelsea F.C.
