Glamorous Italian players at Stoke back in the 70's, ahead of our time as usual!

Looked a really classy player but just didn't seem to have the physicality of fitness to make it big.

Mildly embarrassing confession time...
in my 15+ years of Oatie posting, every time I ever saw this name on here I thought it was an in-joke “exoticisation” of John Rudge’s name, like Sam Allardici or Tony Pulisio, until I found out about a year ago he was a real bloke who played for us.

Very good photographer. I always thought he was going to be an outstanding player, but never seemed to make it.

Thanks for posting this. It's a really interesting insight into the life of an emerging pro footballer in the early 70s.
Cold showers at Workington, playing against Bobby Charlton and Denis Law in the Central League, his debut experience, being sold to Brighton.

I could never understand why George Eastham sold him to Brighton. I thought he would be one of the mainstays of the team rebuiding after relegation. Oh well ...

I could never understand why George Eastham sold him to Brighton. I thought he would be one of the mainstays of the team rebuiding after relegation. Oh well ... Some of these transfers are dodgy really. God knows what goes on behind the scenes. Something happened in between him telling that he was going to be a major part of the rebuild and then him being sold and driven down to Brighton. It looks like he was sold to bring in Paul Richardson. Why would he drive him down? I wish the interviewer would would have probed more, I would have liked to have known about the conversation in the car. Surely, you would want an explanation. Doesn't seem like George had anything to hide otherwise he wouldn't have been driving him there surely????

You are not alone I thought this aswell.. pisser. We often take the mickey out of those fans who think that football somehow did not exist before the advent of the Premier League. I am often surprised that many fans' knowledge of their own team's history (and the players who made it) just goes back as far as their first seasons as a supporter. Are modern fans not particularly interested in their club's history? As a kid, I admit I read as much as I could find about Stoke and their players before my time (1940s). I didn't think it strange to do so, maybe folks do nowadays?
