I started to go to games in 1968. It was moaning, groaning then too. I remember the stick Jimmy Greenhoff used to get. BUT...the big difference now is the outlets that people have for it and the audience (they think) they have for it. Outside of matchdays, there was basically the pub and a small group of fans who were exposed to it, now the ego is fed by the prospect of a much wider audience that the www has given us with the added bonus of the anonymity that accompanies it. You can spend all day on forums moaning, arguing and whinging under the delusion that many more people are interested than actually are. I think moaning is something that becomes habitual and therefore matchday moaning is influenced by online moaning. Maybe other factors come into it too. The fact that its quite expensive to go to a game means who may feel more entitled to grumble and the fact that our 'complaints culture' has been more encouraged in recent times. I also think the fact that we were probably expecting to be bossing this League by now not struggling to survive in it helps to feed it too. There's plenty of truth in that, but you seem to be suggesting at the same time that there's no cause for any grumbling and it's just preening, entitled egotists demanding the unreasonable. That isn't the case.

That isn't the case. That wasn't my intention really, I was more commenting on some factors that may contribute to moaning/whinging etc regardless of results, while also trying to suggest that there has always been moaning over the 50 years since I started going even when we were being relatively successful. Its taken on new forms and I think people indulge in it moreso because there are more platforms for it than there was. The football media, which is huge and overinflated, certainly encourages. See this forum too! At the end I acknowledge that the results and performances have contributed to it, based on a level of expectation, without commenting on whether that is merited or not. I would of thought it is simply inevitable. I also think that the cost of going to games does make people more entitled to complain, it just so happens that this coincides in a growth in the 'complaints culture' more generally in society which has its own vested interests. I certainly don't think complaining is always a bad thing btw.

Some of the lads out there need to be recorded and have it played back to them after the match so they can understand what it's like for the poor people either side or in front of them. I'm sure some are complaining so loudly that the poor buggers behind get an earful as well.
Yesterday was extra special, I'd have paid serious money for ear defenders One of the many benefits of being partially deaf. That's what I thought until some twat moved in next to my season ticket. Now I'm begging for it to go completely. I've got a spare SMM headband if you'd like to double up alternately I've got a rather fetching pair of ear warmers from a Santa trip to Lapland that I no longer use. You won't hear a thing..... not even the crowd chanting and cheering and celebrating goals
