I hope that McLean looks at this site so he can see this. 49,647 southern Irishmen died in the British forces in WWI. The only thing McLean is doing by making this statement is disrespecting his fellow countrymen, The Irish in southern Ireland also wear the poppy at this time of year. It's not popular to do so in certain circles but they do it to remember THEIR Fallen. McLean you may not like us, we don't like you. but rememember your kin ffs Who are you to lecture him and anyone else as to what they should or shouldn't be doing when it comes to remembrance ? It's up to him and anyone else for that matter to wear or not wear a poppy and frankly I'm sick of the whole fucking thing. Chastise him for quoting Bobby Sands and slagging off(some) Stoke fans but if he's doesn't want to wear a poppy the that is personal choice for christs sake.

Those who died for our country died for freedom. I think that’s the baseline that should be remembered. You don’t have know to agree with everyone else, and you shouldn’t be demonised for believing what you believe. ... and nor should you be demonised for thinking he's a twat. Cuts both ways. If you went the game today, you would know it was more than people just ‘thinking’ he was a twat.

I know this will get lost in a load of boring, same old subject posts, but had to take the time to sit down and write it.
Travelled across to Nottingham today with a few lads who let's be fair, had a preconception of James Maclean. Some good, some bad and to be honest, all surprised he was picked today, but by far in the majority hoping he did something on the pitch.
During the first half, me, a Catholic from a loving, half Irish family and probably a pint or two over the limit, was called out because I gave the subject of this week's media circus a shout of "Fuck him off, you're shit get him off" after tripping over his own feet. I'd aimed equally "abusive" shouts at Bruno and Etobo for being just as bad. However my "abuse" of James resulted in a "You're only saying that because it's him" from behind me and "That's not going to help him is it?" from another bystander who overheard my observations. They got a response that was respectful and in my opinion again, justified.
Let's get real. We go to football to vent. Enjoy a day out. We criticise.
I'll admit to shouting dogs abuse at villains and donkeys, but cried when I've seen heroes score. I might have been christened Catholic but that's my strip, that club, our history. That's my religion.
I've never had to defend my right of a footballing opinion until today. I've never seen fans so divided until today. That's because James Maclean is at MY club.
It was a bad fit all round. A total lack of reputational damage from a business point of view, more so a clear lack of football understanding from the coaching staff.
All involved, have to accept responsibility. The split in that away end today is something that needs to go, and quick.
