Was it me but did there seem a particularly heavy presence there yesterday? Saw Sheff Weds a few weeks back at Ashton Gate with an Owl fan and there were hardly any old bill after the match. They looked ready for action. On a more positive note my son who works at Tesco’s in Bristol got major bragging rights today in his shift.

Always been a fair amount of trouble whenever we’ve played down there, remember our lot invading the pitch at half time in the cup game in the 90s, didn’t see any mither on sat probably the least intimidating it’s been down there

Whilst we have so called supporters who throw flares like the moron on Saturday with a few minutes to go they’ll continue to be there in large numbers.

I commented on this to my wife when I got home with the Kids- must have been a minimum of 200 Officers deployed may be more. Nearly all I saw had access to riot equipment and a number had stab vests. They looked on edge as though they had been wound up in their briefing to expect disorder.
They kept the coaches back for nearly an hour as well
As far as I could see there was no trouble whats so ever, and the small Bristol crew to our left were absolutely pathetic and incapable of creating major disturbance
Is the incident at Preston and the obvious drug abuse in the bogs at West Brom following us around?

Probably much of our past from the last 30 years following us around in reality.

We had some good natured humour with the police inside the ground. There were stewarding issues and basically people were being forced into the isles and when the goal went in there was a bit of a push. The police were laughing at how useless the stewards were.
Outside the ground afterwards, the mood completely changed. We saw an intoxicated lad being "restrained via a non-harmful pressure point" (neck below his ear?) as he tried to walk back to his bus. It certainly didn't look non-harmful and he was clearly in quite a bit of pain and discomfort. Although this is one of those situations where you're best not getting involved, it really felt as though the police were being unnecessarily heavy handed afterwards. Perhaps something had gone on?

The policing operation did look set up to cover a lot of eventualities, they had all the staff and kit highly visible from the outset. My experience was that I was able to laugh and joke with them, the stewards not so much. The amount of police present is always a bone of contention but these operations are very expensive and inconvenient to set up, given how their budget has been decimated they must have had some intelligence to suggest potential problems before going to all that effort and of course previous history plays a part so the flare near the end did little for our image.

I seem to remember ‘shirts’ get battered by the park in the Noughties & ending up in the BRI hospital with broken eye sockets & the like... Speaking of Bristol City and the Park in the Noughties or maybe early 2000's, I went to a game down there where I would guess about 200 of our 'lads' were combing across that park before the match only stopping to confront locals outside a couple of the pubs on the periphery of the park but the odd thing is they were all bedecked in matching dark blue bobble hats. Was there a time when it was de rigeur among our boys to where this kind of colour-coordinated utilitarian cold-weather wear or have I dreamt it ?
