They had 21 shots and 14 corners! We had 19 shots and 11 corners against Birmingham 3 days earlier and came away with nothing at all. You don't always get what you deserve in football, it's as chancy a game as sport gets.

Oh great, another stats debate.
I never understand why people jump all over the shots on target stat. I've seen it on numerous occasions where people on here will moan something along the lines of "45 fucking minutes and we haven't had a shot on target, unforgiveable".. this will have been said in the same game where Diouf might’ve fudged one over the bar from 2 yards or hit the woodwork.
Like what has already been said, it's all about chances created, no matter where the ball ended up, if you want an indication on how the game should/could've finished. They missed 2 absolute sitters in the first half the other night but because Butland didn't have to make a save does that mean we shouldn't acknowledge the fact we should've conceded 2 goals?
Shots on target is not an important stat, end of. Nor any tbh barring the sodding scoreline.

I'd say it's one of the most important metrics to measure, and support with other stats that your post touches on. Chances created, areas of chances created, distance from goal of shot, chances missed and by who. It can tell a switched on manager a lot about his team.

It's all about clear cut chances, surely?! a sitter from 6 yards that misses the target is more relevant than Charlie Adam twatting one from 30 yards straight at the keeper? that's what I mean.

It's relevant when you combine the two, as it feeds into the most important stat, the scoreline. Our 19 shots, 3 on target v Brum tells a story doesn't it, especially when combined with how many passes our centre halves made between themselves...

And the most blatant hand ball on the line you will ever see. I appreciate the current climate dictates we can do nothing right but to say we weren't worth at least a share of the spoils against Birmingham is just a nonsense.

What about Birmingham testing our goalkeeper twice as many times as we tested theirs, despite having much less of the ball? Does that not enter the equation? They were well worth their victory and anything else is sour grapes on our behalf.

Imo fans have suffered massively from pre-season predictions and odds on us bouncing straight back up. This raised expectation that the players and manager have failed to deliver for many reasons high lighted in this thread. League position says we are slowly improving even if performances don’t .

He spouts some rubbish after games but, was he even watching this one? “I can’t remember many clear cut chances for them” Jesus Christ, if he wants to see “a tiny bit more from us” why doesn’t he set us up to win a game rather than shitting it before he’s even got us on the pitch? Shit house. Don’t even get me started on the tool asking the questions. What a stupid post SGS
