What do we do in training? Most of our corners are really shite! Who is supposed to go for the first post and who will go for the back post? Who will be lined up for rebounds and so on? I really can't seee that we have worked on any patterns at all, we just lump it in hoping for the best! And it must be possible to beat their first man on corners, unless we need someone there to flick it on!

I thought for a moment you were going to suggest that we fill them in.

Absolutely no blocking off whatsoever = no preparation in training whatsoever.
It is time Peter Coates called Rowett in and pointed out a few home truths.
To be honest, I am beginning to feel sorry for Rowett. On Saturday he had the demeanor of a man completely out of his depth.

Agreed we were poor from corners. Admittedly we had no real aerial threat bar Martins Indi. For me we should certainly have bodies going front post and also cover beyond back post. Then have at least two looking for the centre of the goal for rebounds, knockons etc. Then the likes of Etebo, Bojan. Allen, Woods on the edge of the area.
Without Shawcross, Crouch we definitely lack height at both ends of the pitch.

Not letting Joe Allen take then would be a good start.

I was told (far too late in my 'career' I might add ) that the best place to be for a corner is just beyond the corner of the 6 yard box furthest away from the corner taker. I profited greatly from it, you can see a lot of what's going on and are in an ideal place to run onto any loose balls, the ball ends up in that area a surprising number of times.

My main quality as a (not particularly good) footballer was that I could put crosses or set-pieces into the optimum danger zone almost every time. It's a source of constant irritation that professional footballers earning thousands per week can so rarely do something that to me seemed like a fairly basic skill.
