It's shit or bust time for our Gary - carry on like he is and he is a gonner and our season is over.
He might as well give the below team and formation to the end of December home and away and make teams worry about US. Basically 6 defending and 4 attacking
Butland (6 defending) Right back (NOT MARTINA) 2 of Shawcross,/Williams/Indi. Pieters Woods Etebo (or Clucas)
(4 attacking) Ince floating left or right Bojan behind a front 2 of Afobe and Berahino

He must stop playing Afobe as a lone striker as that doesn't work! He needs a target man alongside him and we only have one, Crouch.

He hasn't got the bollocks. Birmingham fans and Derby fans said as much. His subs and formations are proof of it.
Saddens me as I thought he was the bloke to do it. Truth is, he's a fucking fraud. All talk.

All talk. Derby fans thought they were nailed on to be promoted last season, then after Stoke came in for him after Hughes was sacked, it all went pear shaped and he sent his team out with no game plan.

A front four of Ince, Saido and Bojan supporting Afobe is the way forward with our current squad, certainly for home games. Give them a run of games and let them settle.

If Rowett went on to get Stoke promoted he will always be on a loser, it’s like history repeating itself, Pulis,Hughes,Waddington all divided fans opinion even if the team was winning, it’s always been that way and it always will .He gets castigated for telling the truth about players and their performance and now he’s berated for not being honest about Tuesdays game ? By EFL standards Rowett has spent a fortune on new players but wasn’t this needed at least two years ago ? He hasn’t just walked into a club that has a battle hardened team ready for the off, he’s walked into a club that is tearing itself apart. I’m afraid it’s going to be one step forward two steps back, Rowett is trying to create a team with his own choice of players and the players who were responsible for the teams relegation and so he needs time. At the moment we have not been cut adrift and a good point to remember is that despite all the bleating we have just taken four points out of six from the form teams of this division on their own patches !

I'm desperate for him to do well and to see the light, but playing 442 on Tuesday was massively disappointing. It just seemed to demonstrate that he's determined to not help himself (or his team) and setting up to 'not lose' rather than win games by taking it to the opposition. We're playing catch up, and the longer it takes to win more games than we're losing (currently W4 D5 L5), the further adrift we'll be and the more difficult it will be to claim a top 6 spot. I honestly thought he'd turned a corner with the realisation that we needed to stop being reactive and start looking to dictate matches: And yet, he fails to keep that team together and starts playing with different personnel and formation again, and reverts to more negative football with no intensity whatsoever. I can largely deal with inconsistent results and viewing early season performances as a settling and adjustment period IF there was a clear plan and a general trend to the positive and our football was improving. But I can't see it at the moment and it's been massively underwhelming.

It seems like that we have a lynch party with the rope and tree and just waiting for the innocent victim to walk into town, while the real culprits for the crime have rode off into the sunset, they are the ones that I’d like to take account !

I am not buying it that Rowett and Lambert are a couple of numpties who don't understand football
Scholes carto JC have turned the club into a mess and its getting to be borderline unmanageable
If GR doesn't get the results , he will go , there is no doubt about that .
I am not expecting those responsible for getting the club into this mess , to be bought to account .I would be amazed if that happens .
But lets stop buying it , that the likes of Rowett and Lambert are idiots .
It was interesting to hear the Man utd fans with their club 2-0 down to Newcastle singing loudly .. " jose is right ! the board are Sh#te ! "
If Rowett goes I would prefer to hear similar sentiments at stoke , than going along will the scholes/carto JC party line that football men like GR and Lambo are useless wally's who don't understand the game

He’s either very naive or he’s got some bottle to walk into this shit storm. You may point to Lampard at Derby and what a great job he’s doing, fair enough but what happens when the bubble bursts, how will he cope then ? I’d rather have a manager that has rode the storm that Stoke is, and hopefully come out the other side.

Unfortunately he will think the shit show of tonight will justify his negative shite This is classic. Rowett plays pretty much the attacking format demanded by the OP, the midfield get overrun as a result and Rowett gets slaughtered for the team under performing. Any sane manager would analyse what didn't work at Sheffield United, conclude that the midfield needs strengthening but if he strengthens the midfield he'll get slaughtered for being negative. So if he does what the OP suggests and it doesn't work it's Rowett's fault and not the fact that playing an attacking side makes you more vulnerable and if he rectify's the problem he's at fault for not sticking to a formation that clearly has weaknesses. If he just bloody does for it we'll lose more than we'll win. What he has to do is get the balance right.

If he just bloody does for it we'll lose more than we'll win. What he has to do is get the balance right. Personally, I agree with that. East Mids potter sees 442 with 2 wide players and 2 strikers as setting up not to lose but I think many professionals would see it as risky, even foolhardy, away from home against a team who could have gone top. It didn't work and we were lucky to go in level at HT. Rowett does appear to be willing to try different formations and different personnel for different games, which I like, but he doesn't always get it right. People talk about listening to the fans, but you've only got to read this Board for a few minutes to realise that there is no such thing as a fans consensus. There are a wide range of 'solutions' many of which contradict each other. But I have got the answer. I don't know why he doesn't just ring me before each game. Even though I haven't got any coaching badges, have never played professionally, don't see how players perform on the training ground and haven't got access to a fraction of the data on other teams which he has, the fact is that no Stoke team which I've selected and prepared has ever lost. It should be a no brainer I'm not personally convinced that there is a manager out there who would come to Stoke who's better, but time will tell. The simple truth is that this is a very tough league, most of which is clubs of similar size to ourselves. It's very bunched together at the moment, and the margins between success and failure are very small.

It's very bunched together at the moment, and the margins between success and failure are very small. Well we're all experts these days :-) I like the fact Rowett is prepared to change the shape of the side but at times I'm not convinced we've got it right. I'm really not sure what Berahino's role was on Tuesday - he wasn't picking the ball up deep but he wasn't close enough to Afobe to play off him - which meant we were light in midfield and we didn't have enough upfront to take the game to them. It was an attacking line up without actually being attacking, We'd have been better off having another ball winner in midfield - no doubt Rowett would have been shot down for being negative - but sometimes you have to stop the opposition from playing before you can get your own game going - which is what we failed to do Tuesday. Going back to the OP I thinks it's wrong on two counts. Setting up for all out attack can often lead to you not being able to attack because you've neglected the bit about getting hold of the ball in the first place and secondly blindly playing the same shape every time means setting up in a way that just plays into the hands of teams who play a way that countermands it. Flexibility - if done properly - is the way to go. We just need to get better at it.

Where Tony Pulis has been clever, is that he has always surrounded himself with experienced ex-managers, Ellis,Megson,Francis etc. He was fortunate at Stoke to also have the wise old head of John Rudge to hold council with. Would Rowett be open to a older statesman of football to help burden the load or would his ego be hurt ? The other problem with such an idea is the CEO of Stoke and also the Technical Director of Football, would they allow such a appointment, or would they see this as some kind of threat to their secretive little empire ? It’s just a thought, but hey what do I know I’m just a supporter that should know his place.

Got to find a moe effective formation for home games, hanging on for a win away is fine, but we need to create much more at home , otherwise it is going to be 2 steps forward and one back.
