Passed Lilleshall today,I was telling the wife it used to be the centre for talented schoolboy footballers in years gone by.
I don't think she believed me.

Yes, also think the stadium should have been built in the midlands. With the khan offer they should snap his hands off and build a new stadium in the midland with the cash and do it properly this time. The whole area around Wembley is a total shit hole. If you haven’t been to Wembley and the surrounding area recently I suggest you do. You would not recognise it. There is an entire New conurbation in progress. £Hundreds Million’s being spent on Tower blocks, Shops, Pubs, Public seating areas. Absoloutely amazing what is going on down there. Makes you realise how neglected areas like Stoke are.[/quote] Yes, and areas like Stoke will continue to be neglected until/unless policies are put in place to bring more major infrastructure (of National Interest) into the provinces. I remember wondering what was the point of moving a lot of the BBC staff out of London and plonking them down in Manchester. But when you look at the Salford Quays area and the way it has been transformed in recent years you can see the huge improvements which projects like Media City have contributed to. If we want the Midlands (and officially that includes Stoke) to become a vibrant area which people from all over the country will wish to visit then we need to stop concentrating ALL the Crown jewels in London and move more of them into the provinces. Other countries manage to disperse their attractions/major projects away from their Capital and reap the benfits - no one goes to Australia and decides that they must visit Canberra and miss out the rest of the country. Britain must be one of the most "capital centric" countries in the world and, as a result, the capital is ridiculously over crowded and over priced and the provinces are neglected.

As I said in my earlier post. It would be only about one hour from central London, about the same time it would take to travel from the suburbs of the capital to Wembley. Why not integrate HS2 into the equation as it is already on the proposed route?
As far as American football and other events are concearned, Wembley, The Olympic Stadium and the Dome etc will still be there .

And the new White Hart Lane - which has been designed with NFL in mind.

Because the majority of the population live there? Why should they have a long commute for everyone when the majority could have a short commute? There are more of the population living in the South East than the Midlands, that is true. But a stadium in the Midlands near the rail and motorway network would have more people living within 2 hours commute of it than would do so if it was in London. A Stadium somewhere near the National Exhibition Centre and Birmingham Airport would have half the English population within a 2 hour commute I would think and pretty well all of England and Wales could get there and back in a day without too much by way of early starts or very late finishes. The National Exhibition Centre was located there rather than in London for that very reason. Of course, anyone who thinks that the people living in and near London are more important than the people elsewhere in the country, will not agree with me! Not more important, just more of them. Why risk making your largest customer base trek x hours away, so you can take the chance that a smaller group of customers will suddenly decide to travel y hours to replace them. More people in London = more chance of filling all seats.
