Went to watch Nathan Collins playing for Ireland under 19s against Holland earlier and he looks an excellent prospect. Is he highly rated by the club?

Every mention of him seems really positive, and he's arguably the youngster who seems to be making the most waves. Impressive for a 17-year-old. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/morecambe-stoke-city-clucas-debut-2086382NATHAN COLLINS, aged 17, centre-backNo one watching this season will have guessed he’s so young. Collins joined Stoke a year ago from Cherry Orchard and has stepped up to the under-23s with no problems, having captained the Republic of Ireland under-17s in the summer. He’s a classy operator who has a bit of everything, including being able to bring the ball out of defence. His dad, Dave Collins, played at Oxford United under Denis Smith. Russell said: “He’s a good footballer. He’s doing well at the moment and he’s got to keep his feet on the floor. He’s certainly getting the attention of people, definitely.” www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-city-transfer-news-martinsindi-1673928?333Harry Souttar has benefited from a loan spell at Ross County while the speedy development of 17-year-old Nathan Collins could propel him into the senior picture sooner rather than later.

Nathan is an excellent prospect. Another Irish player that we nabbed is Ethan Varian [from Cork]. One that we missed is adam idah who went to Norwich. wait till you see this kid !!!!!!!

Watched Nathan play for Ireland in the summer and for different age groups for Stoke, this Kid at 17years of age is the REAL deal, he’s got the gift of always seeming to have time on the ball, and reads the game like a seasoned international. I just hope that we don’t mess this up and have a watertight contract on him because the big boys from the premiership and the top European leagues will be watching him.

What's his contract situation? Only thing I could find was a football manager type site that said June 2019. Let’s hope this isn’t the case or he’ll be off.

With the poor results that both Ireland’s national teams are suffering could we be witnessing a renaissance in this new wave of young Irish players ? The raw talent has always been there (Best,Brady,O’Leary etc) I just hope that we can tap into this well and have the coaches that can match these youngsters ambitions.

I would expect that Collins is already being watched by other clubs, who would be paying close attention to his contract situation. He would remind you of a young Vincent Kompany, when he first appeared in his teens. He was listed in the Guardian's 2017 list of twenty under-age players most likely to make it.
When you consider the current struggles we are having at centre-half - not to mention the close to 20 million we spent on a fat Austrian (I can't even bring myself to type out his name!), Collins can provide the level we are looking for, and save the club a fortune. There should be plenty of opportunity to introduce him to first-team involvement during the course of the season.
If he isn't tied down soon with a five-year contract, heads should roll. If he is allowed to leave altogether.....

Give him a long contract ASAP I saw him play in the Euro Under 17s Championships in the summer. Our best talent at the academy without a doubt.

What’s Varian like? Very well thought of in Cork - one of very few emerging from the city who made it to championship - good striker. Note my comments about adam Idah in Norwich - this kid is as good as Shearer

Agree he was the best player in the Ireland v Netherlands game by far. He's quick, strong, likes to carry the ball and has good pass accuracy. He's a real leader and I hope he gets a run out in the not to distant future

I mentioned Adam Idah elsewhere but there are also academy players at Spurs (see Troy Parrott who they are calling the new Robbie Keane), Man City, Southampton, Ipswich, Derby, and Man U I think. Yeah need to see the next five years through and I think there will be a very good national team.
