Two things stick out in my mind about Jackie; Whatever he was doing on the left hand side of the pitch I don’t know. The shit were attacking the Boothen End (about 25 yards out) and Jackie escorted George Best from near the Boothen Paddock touchline over to the Butler Street Paddock touchline before taking the ball off him It was a night match at the Vic and I was in Boothen Stand, just before 7pm (7.30 KO in them days if I remember correctly) and over the tannoy came the message “Can Jackie Marsh please come to the main entrance”. The message came over the tannoy about three more times. Guess who started the game? Correct our Jackie I’ll never forget the above. Classic times, classic players who could play and mix it as well

Top man Jackie Marsh ....everytime I see him he reminds me that he made dad “great” by giving him so much to do at the back between the “sticks”....I watched him play as I youngster and he was a player that gave his all on the pitch. He was proud to pull on the red and white strip...born and bred in stoke on Trent and and a superb right back. Plus he is one of the nicest, funniest guys you’ll ever meet !! A real gent ...and a lovely man.

Ask him if the highlight of his career was as player manager of Uttoxeter Rangers back in the early 80's? I had the pleasure of being one of his team!!! Oops, I'm too late....

I remember Jackie drinking at the Richmond club near Hanley with Alan Hudson and one or two others from the old days.
George Berry and Steve Bould and one or two other current players from that time (late 80's) used to get in there too after the matches.
Alan's wife/ex-wife/partner whatever it was used to teach the exercise classes in there and had some shiny leather trousers as I recall from which I have never quite recovered!
It was a strange place, part squash club and gym and part pensioners club.
Anyone know if it is still there? I can't find any on-line reference to it and I no longer live in the area.

I ve known John as a player ( one of my all time favourites ) but more as a ex player for many many years
If there is one comment I can make about the gent it is that he never ever gives you the impression that talking to anyone is a chore I see him most weeks out and about (at least once a week) and think back to walking around Longton Park after my own heart surgery one way and him walking the opposite way after his scare
He looks fantastic now and I ( as I am sure many more on here are ) am made up that this is the case
The comment " A LEGEND " can be overused but never when describing John Marsh
Should have won dozens of caps for his country

One of the local back 4 of Marsh, Bloor, Smith and Pejic. Haven’t had that since and never likely to.

Great to hear he’s doing well was the RB when I started watching us. Sounds like he’s battled back well. I’m sure I heard someone say he was almost homeless in the 90s-00s. Did he ever get a testimonial. Remember going to Smith and Dodds. I think one was v the Vale and another V ex players.

His lad Gary is a top guy too! Unassuming and humble but was a great person to work with and learn from... really must take after his dad (who I met at the Victoria Ground and was a great laugh too!).
I have Nothing but good words to say about either person 😊

i can still see Jackie charging up the wing , and he could cross the ball well He could be an aggressive bugger, he"d have quite a few reds with todays refs !! Marsh,Smith,Bloor, Pejic now that was a back 4.

How long ago was it that there was a dispute over his daughter (usually scantily clad) carrying the board around the pitch with the golden goal time on it? The club caved in to pressure and started simply announcing the goal time over the PA system - thus depriving the lovely Ms Marsh of a job. Does anyone know if she still lives in N Satffs? I presume she is married with a family by now. Lovely girl - certainly better looking than her dad! I loved that back four as well - although when I see film of them in action it has to be said that whilst Jackie and Pej had pace to spare, Smith and Bloor would probably not have had the pace to cut the mustard (as a pair) in the top flight these days.

But if he did, it certainly wasn't the one who walked round the pitch at the Brit (as it then was) that was certainly his daughter.
