Just watching Spuds get dicked by Barca. What a fucking state the pitch is in. I assume it's the damage caused by the Joshua fight. It's an absolute disgrace. That was a fortnight ago they should have sorted it by now. This is going to be the problem if they sell it. In order to maximise it's profitability it's going to be used for everything and anything other than football and it will end up like this all the time to the detriment of football.

At the time the Joshua fight was booked Tottenham were scheduled to be back at White Hart Lane by now. Plus it didn't seem to affect Barcelona. Messi was absolutely incredible tonight.

Could of been worse was it 1976 when they had the horse of the year show there a week before the fa cup final?

Like others have said, when the Joshua fight was booked it was assumed that Spurs would be back at White Hart Lane by now. Their construction work fell behind schedule and they had to book Wembley again at short notice for the start of the season and obviously Wembley couldn't move it's prior commitments which has led to this situation.

More importantly it helped Swindon beat Arsenal in the League Cup Final. So not, all things considered, a particularly bad thing. Edit. Worth also saying Messi and co were tidy last night. The dummies that set up both Messi's goals were sublime.

It seems they need every event they can get to make back some of the losses, the England games held around the country whilst it was rebuilt were great fun as were the cup finals at the Millenium Stadium.
I wonder if England really needs a national stadium dedicated to football - perhaps an all rounder used for egg chasing and athletics as well would have been a better option.

No. Football dedication is the way.

I'm not sure we do have a national stadium dedicated to football do we? For example Wembley has 2 NFL games coming up in October and I saw last night they are flogging tickets for The Eagles next year. Apart from not having athletics and rugby union which have their own stadiums in Stratford and Twickenham it's pretty much a multi-purpose sport and pop venue.

Went to Millenium Stadium 3 times with my lot (2 Play off Finals and thw FA Cup Final) Have had 1 Play off final at the new Wembley preferred Wembley myself but then I live closer than most and we won!

I find winning at any stadium always has a massive influence on how fondly you remember it, I remember watching us at the original Wembley stadium in 2000 - there was something really special about walking along wembley way with the two towers facing you, and we won of course. Happy days at the Millennium too for our promotion from what was division 2. There doesn't seem anything special to the new Wembley for me, but perhaps I'm old now and the youth of today get the same feeling walking up to see the arch that I got with the towers. I also think having the FA cup semis there ruins the occasion of the final.

True, but I thought it was intended as a football stadium, perhaps we're expanding the use of football to the American variety too. And you're right, there have always been concerts there. Provided the pitch is in a good state for the Euro 2020 final when the ginger Pirlo lifts the trophy I'll be happy.

We won one of the 3 in Crdiff too I far preferred the old Wembley too, however for any Hammer the walk up Wembley Way remains special due to who's waiting in pride of place at the end

The 1970 FA Cup final was memorable for other reasons - the kick fest between Leeds and Chelsea!

And strangely enough not by Sullivan and Gold who gave him a job at their newspaper when everyone else was ignoring him
