Is it me or do people not go out round Stoke or Newcastle like they used to?
Can't speak for Hanley as I avoid it like the plague but Newcastle seems to be a ghost town these days.
What's happening- are people having gatherings at home, going to other cities or going abroad?
I'd hate to be young now, it seems wank. As does the music.

I haven't been to Hanley in years, it's just vile. As for Newcastle, it's a rarity these days as I just stay close to where I live around Hartshill. Some nice pubs within a small area means I don't need to go into 'Castle tbh. Sanctuary, Artisan & The Greyhound all on my doorstop.

There's definitely a dearth of younger people hitting the town these days and the older one of us pick and choose their nights out carefully rather than go out every Friday and Saturday due to childcare commitments. It's not just bars and pubs either, I go to a lot of gigs and theres a load of times where I go to see a new band and I'm one of the youngest there (at 42) Fuck knows where they're all hiding.

I think there's a couple of things that have had an influence. Online gaming is a big one for me, the yoof (of the male variety mainly) of today can chat with their mates online whilst in a team and 'shooting' the enemy or playing FIFA or summat, spending very little money and drinking cheap cans of beer if that's their thing. Women are more likely to be on bragbook with a glass of prosecco putting the/their world to rights. The cost has to also be a factor, 3-4 quid for a pint, doesn't take long to get through £20-30 and that's without food and transport. No idea what the answer is, maybe it'll improve again when people start moving back into city centres to live? If there's any boozers left by then

I’d agree with that. Going out has had its hey day. Why buy nice clothes, get a great haircut, Polish your chat up lines, when you can sit in your y-fronts at home and chat to some foreign bird on your tablet or smart phone? And from what I can tell, people who go gigs (as you said), motorcycle ownership and people who go footie etc are older. The t’interweb and dare I say austerity are leaving their marks.

You should see Plymouth it’s fucking teeming satdee nights. This is mainly because of the plethora of student accommodation that has sprung up in the city centre. Just about every new development over the last 3 years has been for students including the "prestidous" Beckley Point by the station. It’s the tallest building south of Bristol. My own thoughts are keep the fuckers in the city centre where they can’t create havoc and nuisance in the residential areas of the city like that has occurred around UWE in Bristol.

Not forgetting Royal Navy lads and lasses make up a large proportion of the night trade in Plymouth, although noticeably dwindling now.

Be interesting to see Union Street nowadays, it was starting to die a death in the early nineties truth be told. Probably full of Costas and Starbucks and the like nowadays :/

I prefer the real ale/craft bottle places these days and 'castle has a good pub crawl in that regard, but I got dragged into The Kiln and it was dead at 11pm. Reflex looked quiet (didn't go in as it's my idea of hell) and Yates' was busy because of the boxing but if it was anything like the Champions League Final, it would have emptied afterwards. I prefer to go out in the day now.
I'd hate to be young and having to 'do the town' these days. The music's not as good, the venues are poorer and the women don't seem to dress up like they used to (not round here anyway). Yes, part of it is me getting older but I genuinely believe it isn't as good as it used to be either. It's hard to believe people used to come from all over the country to visit Hanley (and Longton!).

'Castle used to be a great night out years ago,was always our destination on a Wednesday and Friday and places like Blues bar,The Black Friar,Reflex (can't remember what it was called before it became Relex?) and a few other places wowould be heaving, especially in summer.Always finished off with a balti,at the Shalimar.
Sad to see the state of the old Evergreen's building in Cobridge too.

Bought back memories of Sunday nights disco playing the latest madchester sounds circa 1990. Made me smile thinking of the Black Friar, my party trick in the friar was to put Death Disco by PIL on the dukebox and watch the place empty

Generally bars, festivals and house parties rather than clubs these days isn't it?

We'd pretty much defected to the Barbican back then anyway NS, used to start the evening with a bottle of white each at around 1800, the barmans face the first couple of times was a picture - 'How many glasses?' He used to ask each one of us and each one of us replied 'none mate'

Only Bohemian Rhapsody was the weapon of choice....😉
