I’ve met him. Not an experience I would repeat.

I’ve met him. Not an experience I would repeat. Why, were you a guerrilla on the 70s?

Loved him when he had his short spell with us I was a kid then, around 10 and I remember my dad being really excited when we got him on loan. I do have memories of him playing for Liverpool and being a legend but I was too young to really appreciate what a legend he was.

I am one of the 1,800 or so people who saw him score his only league goal (a penalty for Crewe v York in May 1980)
I saw him play a few times for Crewe that season and he was head and shoulders above any other player at that level. I don't think Waddo was able to believe his luck when he was able to bring him in on loan that season.
Some of his saves were unbelievable, though he did have a tendency to try and barge his way through a dozen players to try and claim crosses on the edge of the penalty area. He was certainly never dull!
When Crewe were awarded a late penalty, the rest of the team beckoned him up to take it. Bruce just ran from his penalty area and just blasted the ball in off the underside of the bar.
He had an amazing impact that season. Instead of finishing 92nd as they usually did, they climbed to the lofty heights of 91st and a full 7 points clear of 92nd!

I enjoyed Brucie being with us. He was a proper character... one of the many around at that time. I have one distinct memory of him that makes me grin to this day. I can't remember who we were playing or much else about the game, but I recall an opposition player shooting from about 25 yards. The ball was like a bullet, heading for the net above Bruce. Almost casually, with both feet planted firmly on the turf, he lifted both hands and caught it perfectly, just as a normal keeper would catch a soft shot going above his head. Then he carried on playing as if it was run of the mill stuff to him. OS,

I can always remember in one game we were playing we were attacking the stoke end and the boothen end were singing delilah, grobbelaar with his hands behind his back decided to orchestrating the boothen end
