His signings have been perhaps the best aspect of Rowett's short time here. Better than his tactical awareness or his game management strategy. Woods, although early days looks an excellent signing. But we have needed a DM for years. Clucas if ever fit should be a useful utility player and a young replacement for Cameron Ince we all knew he was good at this level but his composure in front of goal is surprisingly poor. Martina Can't say I thought we needed this signing but has done OK. Better than Bauer? Not sure. Afobe top signing and the 15+ goal man we simply had to have to have any chance. Williams A knee jerk reaction to poor defensive displays by Shawcross and BMI. Our defence was woeful last season and needed some youthful upgrade. Should have been a main priority McClean Poor signing on many levels. So a 6/10 from me. My main gripe is that if Rowett is insistent on sticking with 4-3-3 then to score enough goals and win 25 plus games with that formation you have to have significant goal contributions from midfield...Allen Etebo and Woods might contribute 3 or 4 maximum. Failing that you have to have major contributions from ALL of the front 3. Afobe and Ince, if he manages to put his shooting boots on the correct way around, will deliver but McClean has never been a goalscorer. That's why McClean was a major error and we should have looked for better. Lack of match winners will be our failing this season for sure. I was thinking about this thread last night. Although Rowett has made progress with our defence, and I'm now I open to giving him the season at least to see how he shapes the team in January, there is no doubt for me though that the summer signings are more miss than hit. Woods is superb obviously, but Ince, Afobe and Mcclean, that is 30 million quid he has pissed away on a front three who were supposed to boss defences in this league, but frankly they look shit. The coates family must be wincing when they consider we paid 30 million quid on a front three who are contributing very very little. For that money we should have been acquiring premier league standard players. we are not quite going to be good enough to get into the top six, not unless we sign several players in January. But I don't think, apart from Woods, that any of Rowett's signings have been very helpful

Spot on. It seems under the Rowett coaching regime all players get worse. Someone posted Afobe is a 15+ goal striker, I hate think how old I will be when that happens. Diouf would score more; at least he gets into scoring positions before he misses and is more likely to feed off Edwards crosses.

Woods was sensational when he came, gets worse by the week now and he’s still our best midfielder
The only ones that’s improved is Ashley Williams but really he couldn’t get any worse.

For me, the transfer window closing completely buggers up scenarios like ours. We needed a complete squad rebuild following years of stagnation under Hughes. That's too much to achieve in one window, leaving the job half done, and a wait of several months before another frenzied attempt to complete the job.
What that does mean is, we can't completely judge how good Rowett's signings are until he's had chance to finish what he started. If we're still underwhelming by February / March *then* we can condemn him.
The window is just a frustration with no obvious benefits which the league should do away with IMHO.

How many windows are we needing to address the imbalances in the squad.
We couldn’t get a left back for years, couldn’t get a holding midfielder, couldn’t get a CB, a Striker.
Then players with pace never came, even though we have desperately needed them.
Now a left winger is required with a CB and a Striker with a right winger too.
Something is seriously wrong with our scouting / recruiting
