Yes there's always been glass half empty sadfucks that whinge and moan (often obsessively about one player) ... so as far as that goes little has changed. I know the circumstances are different now (ie the weight of expectation) but I don't ever remember Lou having to put up with the bile that Rowett has.

If we dont start playing better we dont deserve to be top 6 even if we do get there. I'd like us to play well after Christmas and then we can target a top 2 finish, which is the only acceptable position for us. It doesn’t matter if we deserve it or not. If we are there then that’s it. I’ve always had an eye on this league since we were out of it and it’s crazy. What is acceptable to me is if we get our shit together and keep trying to improving under a new manager who seems to not get a great deal of slack. If we don't start playing better we won't get to top 2 !. I think we will improve, but it won't happen overnight, which is why our target should be a top finish by the end of the season, not the Christmas rush.

The trick to this league is to keep the points total ticking over, this league is relentless and usually positions for promotion or relegation go down to the wire with few sides already on the beach. We the fans are going to have to accept that Stokealona football is a thing of the past, the WIN is everything and a draw is another point to the total a defeat has to be a rarity. Substance will have to rule over style, we are not a Wolves or Fulham, we are STOKE and to find that missing DNA we just have to look at ourselves ! We are proud, loyal, fighters, creative and we love to prove people wrong and that’s basically what we are looking for from our team. And so if you miss the thought of witnessing a masterclass in the dark arts of football by AFC Bournemouth or the panoramic view from St James’s Park I don’t think that this journey is for you,but hopefully we will re introduce ourselves in the near future.

Always been confident that Rowett will get it right and i still am. He's a quality manager at this level and some of the shit that's been spoken on here has been pathetic to say the least. He's fooled you as well has he. Open your eyes.

Not seen this mentioned anywhere (so apologies if it has) but the season we went up from the old 2nd under Lou - we started with 7 points from 7 games. Wonder how much knicker-wetting went on back then!? And last year Fulham were 13th on Xmas day and that worked out ok

Stokealona will be back. Rowett getting one over on Hughes. 4-3-3 A central striker who can hold up the ball. Afobe. Two wingers with pace ince and Diouf. Keeping possession . playing from the back to go forward. 4-1-4-1 when defending Allen, Etebo and woods in midfield England number 1 in goal. Omg give the lads time. Before we know it. Total possession. Barca we may be coming after you. Well if you read some of the posts on here I think you will find that quite a few have been waving their white handkerchiefs above their heads already !.............in defeat.

We will be up around the top 6 by Christmas. If we dont start playing better we dont deserve to be top 6 even if we do get there. I'd like us to play well after Christmas and then we can target a top 2 finish, which is the only acceptable position for us. If we don't play any better and we end up in the top six we still deserve to be in the top six - it means we've got the results we need to be in the top six which is what you need to do to be in the top six. As to top 2 being the only "acceptable" position - put down that prawn sandwich and smell the bovril.

The headline should have a question mark after it. A nice little run. But we've only beaten an awful Hull team and a half strength Swansea side and lost to any half decent side , who we would be competing for top 6 with, except for an undeserved draw with Brentford.

We have enough goals in us for promotion now.
Afobe is a top striker
Ince and Diouf need to chip in
A handful from Allen/Etebo/Berahino/Bojan/Crouch
Its the defence that is the problem. Hopefully Woods will make their life a lot easier. But Shawcross & Indi need to get their shit together, if we harbour hopes of getting promotion.
BTW the OP saying theres no run-away leader is talking balls. Leeds just won 3-0 at home and dont look like they can be stopped at the moment. They MAY run out of energy but then again Hilary Clinton MAY have become president in 2016. Leeds deserve to be top and are closely followed by TP's Middlesborough, Brentford and West Brom.
We look worse than all those 4 teams so our aim should be the play-offs at the moment unless we strengthen in January with a new fast winger, CB and LB.

3 wins in 5, 3 home clean sheets on the bounce, vastly improved performances with more to come, McClean and Clucas to come back next month. All this, and despite our poor start we’re only 9 points off top! There doesn’t appear to be any run away team like Wolves this year so there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t put a run together and make up lost ground. I think we're making progress but I'm not yet fully convinced we've completely turned the corner. We were ultimately lucky to win on Tuesday with a clearly offside goal and things would be looking very different had that game finished 0-0. For me there are still a few too many worrying areas like the wings, full backs, pace in the centre backs and what strikers are going to get goals if Afobe doesn't. A win and a more convincing performance against Blackburn and I'll be onside with the quiet progress. There are certainly positives with central midfield showing a lot of promise and Woods looks class. We're on a knife edge right now though and things could just as easily tip back towards the doom and gloom again as it could tip towards a launch towards the playoffs. I'm just hoping Tuesday was one of those scrappy, lucky wins you sometimes need to get you out of a rut.

We've faced good sides early on in Leeds, Brentford and West Brom. We've also seen absolutely bang average sides like Hull, Sheff Wed and Swansea - there will be some shit teams to come as well. We're still finding our feet in this league and don't forget we are trying to turn around a losing attitude that has been at the club for a couple of years at least. Positives with the new manager are that the best performers so far have been the ones who have come in since he started. Negative points are still keeping faith with the likes of Fletcher and some quite frankly odd substitutions plus we don't know how to really finish teams off. Hopefully that will come in time.
Beat Blackburn and hopefully it'll be an upward trajectory from then on.

Many have said judge after ten games. Well, even if we win our next two games that puts us on the edge of the playoffs which, come the end of the season, means we have a massive couple of games to try and get promoted, or we have failed.
Of course, there is nothing to say we won’t go on a couple of ten game unbeaten runs, but I’m just not seeing enough to convince me we will. At present we are a C, win the next two and it’s a C+.......that’s just where I think we are and I’m not that surprised.

It’s a win and 3 points, and so we move on to the Blackburn game there’s no time and to many games to reflect on performances it’s the result that matters, Performances will come with more games played and victories will breed success and that certain arrogance required.

Leeds have more points after 8 games than Wolves did after 8 last year. Didn’t Leeds start off like a train last year only to fade away terribly? With Marcelo Bielsa in charge I'd be surprised if they collapsed so spectacularly mate.

I know some of the negatives me included get terrible stick for over reacting to defeats but honestly apart from the result which was excellent there was nothing in the *90 minutes last night that gave me any confidence , that shape and structure are emerging . I actually get where you are coming from on this
For me though on Tuesday the result was more important than the performance
You only have to see how the mood of a team rises after a goal to know how important confidence is on the pitch
We were rubbish but won with good performances from individuals a big positive
Personally I would like to see the captaincy moved from Ryan to Joe Allen or maybe even the new guy Ryan Woods
There has to be someone on the pitch who motivates and Ryan has never been that man for me Taking the captaincy off him will also let him concentrate on his game only
Take the result into Saturday .............. Get at Blackburn from the get go Come on you rip roaring potters

Marcelo Bielsa is the flavour of the month, and if you study his own record he blows up as quickly as Afobe’s alleged dolls !

Derby, Fulham and Villa all ended up promoted or in the play-offs. All is not lost but we'll need to add in January.

So Rowett’s start with Derby was a bit ‘meh’... he then got them into the playoffs (sure they were going for automatic promotion at one point).

I know some of the negatives me included get terrible stick for over reacting to defeats but honestly apart from the result which was excellent there was nothing in the *90 minutes last night that gave me any confidence , that shape and structure are emerging . I think it’s literally all down to confidence. Hopefully a couple more wins will give us the confidence to play the risky passes rather than playing it safe. It’ll come I’m convinced I was at Rhyl this last weekend with the family including me mum-( I know living the dream!) I found myself moaning away to mum how Stoke had made my life a misery over the last few years - then relegation blah blah blah! Then out of the blue she just told me to shut-up! then went on to say " Your dad was the bloody same! They are just like you still raw from relegation and low on confidence add to that the new players- they just need time to gel and find their feet"- I've never given her any credit football wise before (except she used to feed the early 70's team after training-having a laugh with them-telling them off and once made them wait for the PMT's football team to eat first telling them "I'm feeding the real footballers first"- I digress)- If I'd read it on here I may have brushed it aside however coming from me mum she made me realise I was fast becoming Stoke's version of Victor Meldrew - So lessons have been learnt and I'm trying my best now to be more positive and enjoy the ride (that is Stoke city) once more- U-T-M-P-
