4 - clueless with no real gameplan or application. We won a war of attrition with a flukey goal against a side who luckily for us were worse on the night.

A good solid 8. Wasn't the best performance, but we ground out the result.

8. Watched on telly.
Starting XI being the same was no issue really for me.
Crouch didn't come on which was a massive bonus.
Thought we could've done with a bit more creativity going forward, probably why we looked better when Saido came on.

8* Even in that first half hour, it was possible to see what they were trying to do, they were just doing it far too slowly and cautiously. There is clearly a plan- something we never saw under Hughes. I wonder if the people shouting for the players to get the ball forwards are the same ones who complain about us hoofing the ball aimlessly upfield?

6 No bizarre subs thank god. His style of football isn't easy on the eye and a makeshift Swansea often looked better than us without really threatening. Still a win and we should really have scored more, what is it with our finishing? Thought we had a crack attacking coach?

I was pleased when we appointed Rowett, I'm less so nowadays, if we beat Blackburn convincingly I might start to believe we're not just papering over the cracks. So 6*

I moan about the slow play, you can get the ball forward quickly without booting it to their defence/goalie. When Butland threw the ball to Ince to counter attack, I call that intelligent play to catch them out after they've poured men forward. Playing ball across your own defence is OK when you've got few goals to the good. 👍

He mentioned two or three times ( in the post match interview posted on here ) , the Stoke players have to force the ball into attacking spaces and not take the easy option of passing it backwards . He even said if Swansea are constantly blocking the attacking spaces we are looking for , then the players have to prepared to go for the attacking pass , and then and try and win the second ball . Rather than go backwards . So he is talking a good game . Just has to make it happen .

After our opening game with Leeds , I would have given GR a 3 .
There is no way in a million years , the players were fit , properly prepared and good to go , on the opening day of the season .
Leaving that total balls up in the past and moving forward , I am warming to him .
He seems to be of the view , the players he has inherited are too fond of passing the ball backwards and have the bad habit of moving 30 yards down the pitch after scoring a goal , and need to be forced to move 30 yards up the pitch and not invite pressure on themselves.
He is right and right again .
If he can get the players to be more confident and take more risks , I think a lot of Stoke fans will warm to him .
He is totally right in what he says , he just needs to pull off the tricky bit and make it happen .
I will give him a 7 ( watched it on the telly )

It wasn't a total balls up by Rowett though. He made it clear that the pre-season was pre-arranged by Lambert. It's obvious that he wasn't happy and would have preferred to do his own thing but it was too late, apparently.
