Moan moan moan. If it had kicked off people would be asking where the police were. Big police presence and no trouble. Seems it worked. Then how come it hardly ever kicks off even with a low police presence? The last home game I walked home past the cricket club (Usually walk up the bank towards heron cross) so I had to walk past 2 stands and the away end I was amazed by how little police there was. 8 or 9 pairs dotted about, maybe 3 police vans. Granted it was low profile fixture...However even in the premier league over the past 10 years with full allocations sold I cant remember seeing a big presence in and around the stadium on the times Ive had to walk past the away end.

How long will the police have this perception that Stoke are all hooligans from a decade ago. Yesterday tried to find a pub in Hillsborough, only told by coppers that we probably wouldnt be allowed in any, theres no beer in the ground as the police dont want Stoke fans drinking. Luckiky we went in a wetherspoons and had no issues. Police had to be called in from other local forces, holidays and days off were cancelled. The amount of police presence was highest ive seen at a game for a long time, this included tram escorts to the ground. The police weren't 'standard' officers either they were geared up, shoulder, elbow pads, helmets the lot. It makes it shit for us away fans that the police are already up for something to kick off. Granted, the preston incident doesn't help matters But the "few dickheads at away" that everyone talks about aren't hooligans, they throw beer about, shout at a few stewards. However if someone in a police uniform got a little bit handy with them they'd shit themselves instantly. Theres no need for the overkill of police numbers and having the response unit ready Not doubting your experience but it wasn't mine. Went to the Railway pub about 10 mins walk from Ground, decent pub with about 50/50 Stoke/ Wednesday fans no problems in there . Agree big police presence but didn't see any sign of inappropriate behaviour? The one's I spoke to seemed helpful and friendly. My daughter is at Uni up there she came over on tram to meet me she said everyone friendly and was helped out by Wednesday fans to find where she was meeting me. She said Tram home was generally friendly apart from one Knob head Stoke fan trying to kick it off.... Thankfully lots of Stoke and Wednesday fans on there who were actual grown ups and not spoilt kids ! All in all had an enjoyable day out

Did they say you weren't? Err, well, it seems they were telling other people not to go into various establishments.... so yes, Sergeant. I was actually under no obligation to tell them anything. Was I under arrest? No. Had I committed a crime? No. I could have quite easily told them to sling their hook, Sarge. We all know how that would have gone though, don't we? So what actual harm did they do to you?

It's not about the specific harm though is it Pugs? The police did not harm me physically, but the fact they clocked us and were immediately suspicious says a lot about their attitude towards football fans as a whole. The fact they wanted us to plot our every move on a map for them screams "if you make the wrong move today boys, we'll give you a fucking shoeing like them miners 35 years ago". It's essentially a supremacist attitude. We're only human. Most of us do not go to the away games to cause trouble, yet we are treated like criminals within seconds of leaving the train station. If the police had come over to simply warn us about a specific pub or maybe suggest a better pub to go in, or something to that extent, I would have had absolutely no issues with them..... they weren't doing that. At no point did their conversation seem for our benefit.... It seemed to be a way of extracting information out of us, as if we were already guilty. Perhaps they wanted to know if we were staying in Sheffield because they were worried a lot of Stoke fans might decide to do the same? You know what....... it's completely legal to have a night out in Sheffield, assuming you're over 18. If I want to stay in Sheffield to have a night out after the football, I can.... and I shouldn't have to disclose it to a bunch of power hungry police officers. It's a prejudice based on absolutely no evidence... at least modern evidence anyway. Football is a much 'softer' day out nowadays. You don't walk to the ground feeling like you're going to get stabbed or attacked or glassed like the old days. You even see fans wearing colours at away days now, something which really wasn't very common even 15 years ago. For every dickhead throwing a pie, there's thousands that attend away games without causing any trouble whatsoever.

Did not go on Saturday but had a great day out ( footy spoilt it a bit ) at WBA and over the last 5 or 6 Years have been pretty much all the grounds with my lad
Just keep our heads down and watch the match
Only really iffy policing I have see over these years was at the Etihad where the police and stewards were clearly looking to chuck a number of Stokies out for pretty much fuck all ( only reacting to provocation from the Man City fans )

Yesterday was a weird one. The police presence was as noticeable as it has been for years. First pub we got to was a Wetherspoon by John Lewis. About 10:30 ish. Sat down with some pints. Within seconds three uniformed police officers walk over and start giving us the third degree: "Where you from lads?", "you hear for the football?", "where you going after?", "you come on the train?", "are you going straight the ground". Guilty of being over 18 in a pub? I half expected them to just keep us in the pub after that because it was clear that they thought there was a hooligan element. After the game, I took the earlier train and the station was heaving. 100 police officers minimum. I didn't see any actual trouble so either the police presence worked or it was something of nothing. I suppose its a deterrent if anything else, if anyone was thinking about misbehaving the sight of all them coppers will make em think twice lol
